2023 - Radio volume too low?

2023 Forester
Hi:

My Subaru Forester is a 2023 model with 24,326 miles. My problem concerns the radio/CD player volume. It is just too low. I am 81 years old and do wear two hearing aids so that doesn't help.

But my Garmin GPS device has a woman's voice which is louder than the Subaru radio. Even when the radio is set to maximum. With all windows closed the radio volume is sufficient when set to maximum with the radio's volume control knob.

But with a window partly down and wind noise the radio volume is insufficient.

I have accessed the entertainment settings and the entertainment sound level screen. There is a touch screen slider that adjusts the volume from 0 to 38. I have set it to 38 but no improvement. And the slider on the screen moves higher or lower in step with the volume knob on the radio, so they are not independent of one another.

I had thought that the screen slider should be unaffected by the radio knob. I expected the 38 max volume would rattle the car windows and I would then be able to use the radio knob to cover a range from very audible to overly loud and uncomfortable.

There is a vertical slider bar on the right side of the entertainment screen but it does not move or adjust anything. Might that be the fault?

I also have used the equalizer for treble, bass, and mid-range and repositionng the relative output of the four speakers, but to no avail.

This is a new radio/ entertainment center as I had a blotchy, mis-colored screen on the original and Subaru had the dealer replace it at no charge. on January 23, 2025

But the original did not have great volume either. Is there a chance Subaru purposely keeps the volume low to prevent possible hearing damage to an owner?

I have tried accouple resets with no luck:

I pressed and held the radio volume control knob until the screen turned off and back on. Also, I pressed the volume, tuner, CD eject buttons all at once to turn the screen off and back on

Any ideas or do I just have to live with the marginal volume level?

Thanks,
Ron Reeland
