Hi All,

Longtime lurker First Time Poster! Picking up my 22 Sport next Saturday (3rd Forester) 5th Subaru and have a question. Looking to add wireless Carplay to the car and came across these two items. What is the difference between the two? Does it work?

Item 1- 2022 Carlinkit 3.0 $99

Item 2- 2022 Carlinkit 3.0 (Type C Design) $118

Also any feed back on this item at all: Wireless Charger

Personally, I've not added wireless CarPlay to my 2014 Forester (and the upgraded Kenwood audio), and I "suffer" through wired Android Auto.

But just looking at those two listings, the biggest difference is the USB interface - a "regular USB" (aka USB A) and a USB Type C (currently on many Android products and something - I heard - that Apple is going to and moving away from the "lightning" plug they've been using for years.

They look to be just a WiFi/Bluetooth connection to a wired USB A connection (like what's in the center stack at the bottom).

The wireless chargers - meh. I've had wireless charging pads for years and often find that they either don't keep a charge going consistently, some will over-charge and/or overheat. Also, some cell phone cases can inhibit the charge from the pad to the receiver on the phone. So you may have to take the case off the phone to use the charger.

I have the Type C design one. Make sure you click the checkbox for 30%discount.

That wireless charger works real good. I've had it since November or so. It does not charge very fast, but it keeps my iPhone X going during gps nav and music streaming.

Most of my trips around town I don't even take phone out of pocket, it's quite nice.

Depends upon the type of USB plug the car has.
My 2019 has the regular big USB A plug. I would suspect yours does the same.
If so you would buy one that has a USB A plug and not have the USB-C plug.

That all said, I bought this one back in May

It came with two USB cables. A longer USB-A cable and a shorter USB-C cable.
The USB-A plugged into the car and the other end plugged into the dongle.
I found the cable just a bit long and in the way so was looking for a better cable.

What I ended up with is using the USB-C cable with a right angle plug

I also have a wireless charger

And together everything fits together, no tape or Velcro, just friction fit.
And everything works perfectly.
I am thrilled as to how well it works.

I did mine just like hogtown. Unit came with its own cord, so I didn't have to make that decision. Biggest issue I have is that I sometimes get disconnected from WiFi and CarPlay stops. Very infrequent, though. I would do over again in a heartbeat, unless vehicle had easy access to USB ports, which my 2020 Forester does not.

I ordered my carlinkit 3.0 from carlinkitcarplay.com. It only only needs $78.50. It has two cable. (Type A-Ccable, type C-C cable)
