Have a 22 Sport on order and am getting a bit concerned after going through this thread in addition to another one.

Also saw that someone reported this as the first complaint for 2022 Forester on NHTSA this morning.

Well, the bottom line is this...........make sure you drive the car at night before you sign on the dotted line.I think you will change your mind and get a different car/suv.I don't know how this is going to get resolved. Not happy in Maryland.

That would be a yes, but are you saying that all LED and HIDS have two dark shadows/ghosts that are directly in the field of vision. Did you read the NHTSA complaint about these headlights. Thanks

This issue is only related to the 2022 model year, it has zero to do with HID or LED lighting.

And unless you rent, or get a loaner, (good luck with that at times) that is specific to what you are buying, not too many dealers are open late enough for it to be totally dark. At least not in my area.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, if enough people complain. Whether or not Subaru will change the LED housing back to the '19 to '21 style, for 2023 or be stubborn, like the head gasket issue. I don't see them changing much for 2022, as it's already been a struggle overall.

Thanks,so your 2021 does not have the ghost/shadows. I wonder if a 2021 led housing can be mounted in a 2022 to fix this problem. I have a 2022 limited.

i just bought a 2022 forrester- the first time i drove at night i realized the headlights were not pointing correctly more than half of windshield is dark you cannot see more than 20 or 30 feet ahead on dark roads is anyone having this issue?

Go back to the dealer and have them aimed, or do it yourself in the driveway.

I have zero issues with the headlights in my "22 Limited, in fact I think they are terrific and one of the best parts of owning a new Forester. Not to say others are incorrect, if there is an issue... get back to the dealer and make it right.

@Panther37
Hello, I just drove my new 2022 Limited last night.Bummer!!!!! The two dark shadows are more than annoying! It is like there are 2 dark ghosts running around in front of me.And the roaming headlights don't help.Of course the 2019 I test drove did not do that. Also the lights are two low,I hope the dealer can correct.Had I known about this, I would have moved on.The rest of the car is great.Just don't drive it at night. Are there any 2022 owners that do not have this problem? Is there any hope for this problem? Thanks
Maybe post a photo or video, I see none of this on my '22 Limited.

If the 2022 is like the 2021 (and older SK?) The headlights/tails come on regardless if the switch is in the off position or not. I haven't checked it in just the marker light mode yet though.

My headlights will come on at times just backing into the garage with the switch in the off position.

I have the same problem and the movement of the shadows that occur as the headlights move is very disorienting to me. It looks like something is crossing in front of me, focuses all my attention on the shadows and I lose perspective of everything else in my path. I registered a second complaint on the NHTSA website yesterday (3/8/2022). I might get used to it, but I'm concerned about how others who experience it for the first time might react.

i did not have access to drive a 2022 Forester due to availability and dealer hours so I reluctantly took my chances when I picked up my 2022 Forester Sport yesterday knowing that I may regret it.

In summary I noticed the pattern and drove at night through city streets, but it did not bother me at all. Maybe I was expecting the worst after reading the NHTSA reports and this forum.

Regarding the NHTSA reports - there have been a total of 3 complaints about the lights, and 2 of those are obviously from the same person (@22ltdheadlight or @BKD I'm guessing that's one of you?). I'm as OCD as anyone I know and I got used to it after a few minutes. I mean 'brain seizure'? That's a little dramatic

Just checked NHTSA site and you can now add a third headlight complaint.

I also tend to suffer from latching on to some imperfection, but I have now driven my Forester Sport at night in both highway and city streets with no issues whatsoever. I think the headlights actually work great.
