A good Monday morning read! All 675 posts - great thread.

But an unanswered question posed at least 3 times: Will 16" takeoff's from a Gen-3 Forester fit on a (non-turbo) 2018 SJ generation Forester Limited. What I saw: Yes on a 2015 Forester (pre-mid cycle refresh), NO on a 2018 XT (turbo).
The situation: Our 2013 Honda CR-V LX AWD gave it's life last month to protect my daughter (driver) and wife in a multi-car pileup. Left behind in my garage is a set of General Altimax Arctic 12 winter tires in size 215/70-16 (XL) 104T with 11/32" tread on Honda steel rims. I could put them up for sale as-is, or, repurpose these almost new winter tires for when the kid takes the Forester thru the Adirondack Park to an Upstate college town.

215/70-16 vs 225/60-17 is a 1% difference in circumference, and the load rating is higher. More sidewall is better for the poor winter roads and potential deep snows. But it does mean going with a rim size NOT sold on SJ models.

The 2009-2013 Forester lower trim models had a 5 spoke painted alloy 16 x 6.5" (28111SC010 and a couple of variants). All specs are the same (5x100, offset 48). Will they work on a 2018?

So, no replies. I guess maybe nobody has done this....

I went to the Tirerack website and searched for a Winter Wheel & Tire Package for a 2018 2.5i Limited, and the Preferred setup came back as a 215/70-16 tire (they have the General Arctic 12 for $104 each) on a 16" wheel with an offset of 48 to 50 mm (a choice of 35 styles).

Perfect! I already have almost new tires, and Gen-III Forester 16" wheels look like they should fit. The hunt begins....

Just need to order a set of Autel MX-1 sensors to clone to the OEM, and go back to Mavis to assemble the pieces.

YW! I don't even have the vehicle yet (dealer is moving slowly on some reconditioning issues), and I'm already shopping for winter sneakers.

What options are available in a 17" OEM Subaru rim to use as a winter rim? I used to have a set of 2010-2014 Outback rims for my '16XT, but we recently upgraded to a 2020 Limited, which of course requires a 5x114 rim vs the 5x100. Was looking at some sort of WRX rim, but they are usually an 8" wide rim with a 55mm offset. In the 17" range, can someone suggest some options to be searching for? I'll be using my current winter tires which are sized at 17' an 225/60.

Thanks in advance!

So I wanted to check as there seems to be people smarter with rims than me on here. I have a 2016 Forester that has the stock 17" rims and am looking for a spare full sized rim to put in the car. Found some rims off of a 2010 legacy that are 17x7.5 5x100 rims and wanted to know if there would be any issues using this as a spare.

I guess using higher offset 2005 outback rims (55 vs 48) on a 2010 as snow tire wheels would be a little odd given the higher offset?
Having a narrower track seems anti-stability.

I could I guess use the stock rims as the snow tire rims.

Does the higher offset stress the wheel bearings more? Ideally the tire centerline would go through the bearing centerline (midway between the inner and outer races).
