Totally out of the blue today both lights came on.

Check Hill Start assist & Check Engine (Check Emission Control System)

Are these two lights ever know to come on simultaneously?

There is nothing wrong with the car
Everything works smoothly as usual and brake lights work normally.

Will appreciate some suggestions

I had this happen to me and the car basically stopped moving. I checked on line and someone had a post which said to check to see if my gas cap was on tightly. It was a little lose so I took it off and then put it back on. The lights were still on but the car would move. I was close to home so I drove there, let the car rest, retightened the gas cap again and then started the car - lights were gone. I had added gas to the car about 150 miles before and it took that long to put up the error. I think the issue with the fuse is also possible but what I wrote was my issue
