Hey guys,
Started having issues months ago when my 2010 Subaru Forester (133K miles) threw the P2096 code. I started replacing things one at a time, solving the P2096 code, but now I have the P0420 that keeps coming back. Since the beginning I've had intermittent issues with cold starts and the idle is almost always too low at a stop. It has stalled on me only twice.
Frankly, I'm at a loss and can't bring my car to my mechanic because of quarantine currently (he's closed). Any thoughts are much appreciated. It feels like everything I have fixed is just masking a larger issue.
Here is everything I have replaced, in order:
132,985 Replaced battery (low voltage on crank, so replaced thinking it might help the cold start issue)
132,985 Replaced catalytic converter (still throwing code P0420 and idling low)
131,683 Replaced EGR valve, header gaskets, & cleaned throttle body (still throwing code P0420 and idling low)
130,185 First time throwing Code P0420 and still idling low (I think during test drive after O2 sensor replacements)
130,185 Replaced upstream & downstream O2 sensors (threw Code P2096, this fixed code but not low idle)
127,491 Replaced spark plugs (was still having intermittent issues and were due for a change)
123,892 Replaced exhaust flex pipes (first time I experienced non-start low idle/power issue, better after this fix)
Other things of note, I have tried the idle relearn procedure multiple times throughout this whole fiasco. From what I can tell it's never really worked. I do have an oil leak coming from a lower part of the crankcase. I have to top it off a few times between changes. Otherwise I've done all my basic maintenances regularly and take very good care of my car, so this issue is driving me nuts.
Thanks much,
