2001 - Crank Pulley Trouble?

Since my water punk busted, I need to take off all of the timing belts, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to take of the bolt for the crank pulley. I can’t find any info on the direction the engine turns (to try the starter bump technique), or of the bolt is reverse threaded. I have purchased the tool to hold the crank in place (I have an automatic, so I can’t put it into gear), but I’m either not strong enough or twisting the wrong way. Can anyone help?

P.S.
This is the only car I can drive, so I am reluctant to try anything I am unsure of because I can not break anything else.

I tried to take the crank pulley off my 1990 Civic. We made a huge ratchet skip. We used a breaker bar with 4 or 6 ft of pipe on it and just broke the socket. I had a big screwdriver through a hole in the pulley and wedged against the engine, and the screwdriver bent like a wet noodle. We phoned a dealership and they confirmed it wasn't a reverse-threaded bolt. Eventually we put everything back together and I took it to a dealership to have the timing belt changed, and they got it done, but I don't know how.

Been there, done that. We were doing the work in a shop that does suspension for big trucks. They had impact guns big enough to flip the car over. The 6' of cheater pipe wasn't our first choice. I'd like to go back in time and give it another shot, but unfortunately don't have that machine yet.

Given that there's room, a box end wrench and a 2 pound or so sledge hammer will usually break the bolt loose. I don't know that any are left hand thread, ie clockwise to loosen.

It's a poor man's impact wrench. :ROFLMAO:

But if the pulley sticks out far enough, it's a socket, breaker bar and muscle. Or making room for an impact gun.

I was able to use chain vice grips around the pulley, and a breaker bar on my Impreza. It was a bit tricky not damaging the grooves for the belts.
