Sheduled Maintenance after Short Block Repalcement

Hi, a couple of years / 25k ago I had my 2012 Forester 2.5X short block replaced at the dealership due to the oil consumption recall they had. I know that the plugs were replaced at that time but does anyone happen to know if the short block repair would affect any other maintenance schedules? I'm anticipating hitting 105k in the next year and understand how important that service is. I just wanted to double check here that I still need to do all of that on the original recommended schedule. Thanks for the help.

The maintenance scheduled for your short block is the same as it was for the original engine, starting with the mileage you had when you put that short block in service. So when that short block reaches 105k, assuming it was installed with a new timing belt and related parts, it will be time to replace the belt. As for chassis maintenance? That will remain the same, starting from the day your Forester was first sold new.

The 2012 has a timing chain, not a belt.

Thanks, I didn't realize that it had a chain in this model. But now when I actually am paying attention to my schedule it sure does say "except 2.5L Forester" next to the drive belt. So is there anything that isn't listed on this schedule that anyone would still maybe recommend doing around 105k as preventative maintenance like they do on the belt models with the belt/water pump etc?

Thanks ForesterBill! ,

I misread the year in my reply and focused on the OP stating a timing belt. I appreciate the clarification.

I don't believe changing the power steering fluid is on the maintenance schedule but I would change it at 105k miles. Easy DIY by extracting fluid from the reservoir and replenishing with Subaru ATF-HP fluid. Do this exchange several times as you will be diluting old fluid with new fluid. Run the steering end-to-end between exchanges or drive for a week between exchanges.

Have you changed the in-tank fuel filter? Although this is on the maintenance schedule it is often overlooked.
