License plate mounting screws

Does anyone know the size (e.g. gauge, length, thread type, etc.) of the license plate screws for the 2019 Forester? I want to order some tamper-proof screws, but am not sure of the nomenclature. Here is a photo of the rear plate screws supplied with my 2019 Touring.

The registries usually have tamper proof screws that look nice and are universal and cheap.

Mine are awesome ... 7 bucks

I used these on the new Outback. They will fit the Forester too.

I think a "registry" is where you get your license plates in Canada.

The real plates arrived from the DMV last weekend. The rear of the car had some kind of holes with plastic inserts. I'm not sure of you could rip the plate off or if the plastic was for protecting the painted surface. The front, however, seemed to be the dealer made holes in the front bumper to mount the plate. It felt like a hole in a piece of relatively thin plastic. States where you only require a rear plate are good, but that front plate "mount" worries me some.

I just matched up the stock ones with what was on hand at my local Ace Hardware. They had tamper-resistant in stainless steel but I didn't bother.

Yes a registry is where you register your vehicle/get plates etc. here in Canada.

These are the tamper proof SS screws I get there. Love them

They look cool, are cheap ... and SS

Don’t care much about the tamper proof part

They are near about 1/4" OD threads, machine screws will work but course threads look like wood screw threads are better.

I just reused the SS socket head lic plate screws (from auto parts store, in packets) with the tamper proof *** in the recess and they use a hollow core allen wrench (in package with screws). They will cut their own threads in the plastic squares on back, and on front … they grip well in the holes in the front bumper cover.

Those in front, even if never used are indicated by dimples and inside the bumper, there is extra urethane molded around where the intended holes are.

I use chrome frames and on rear, the 4 are very secure. On front, the top two holes secure the plate and frame to the car, I also put two screws through bottom holes and used just plastic squares as "nuts" on backside. Very secure also.

...and do have a Safe Trip!

I used Vinyl Fence screw , it is made of stainless, and it require square driver , so it sort of tamper proof. it is right size to fit into license plate holder plastic in rear.
also for front, it can self screw into plastic bumper well.

Other than the Home Depot suggestion from @SuperRu , I didn't get a specific recommendation from anyone on screws. My local Home Depot didn't have any of the ones he suggested in stock. I ordered these from Amazon. The gauge is slightly larger than the stock screws, and they come with a driver head that will fit most power drivers and socket screwdriver handles. Mounting was easy.

BTW, they can polish up to a real nice shine. Just chuck them in your drill and polish away. I start with very fine sandpaper.
