Hey guys - Mk2 - The Roo

Hey everyone, Ian here, new owner of a Subaru Forester XT 2.5 55 plate.

I'll update with some photos soon, missed a chance for some good ones today got distracted
😞

At the moment quite enjoying it's standard set up and figuring it all out, but there will be a few things I hope to sort out, reverse cam or sensors, all in good time...

Very boring updates at the moment are rubber mats and a boot tray... well, mats are currently outside whilst I try and get rid of the rubber stink! Looking for footpack for my Thule roof bars..basically it..

I know everyone, has their own plans and own tastes, but just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on typical starting points, or just ideas?

I'll snoop at some of you guys other posts in a bit and see what you have all done 🙂

Did you get Subaru rubber mats? Mine had no smell to them........Or I can't smell a thing..

One of the first things I did from memory was playing with tyre pressures and using Tesco Momentum fuel to see how the mpg was vs grip and power.
Looking around for any split hoses and anything you just don't like the look of (Rusty radiator mounts etc)
Oil service, throwing in a Cosworth air filter and putting in some better headlight bulbs as the prefacelift headlights need all the help they can get - The HIDs on the Facelift are much better from factory.

Enjoy the car and you'll figure out what you'll want to change.

How is the service history, regarding timing belt and gearbox fluid changes? That might be worth looking into. Same for the rear shocks if they're original - When I got mine, the spare wheel was almost flat....
Did it come with any mods?

Congrats again on the Foz

That’s the least of your problems - you do realise the £60 is the result of keyboards running short of zeros?

(nice car by the way, although it looks like someone has left some fur in the boot )

Yehhhhh.... I know the 60 is code word... it was the PM I'm hoping to avoid!

So...info:

Currently at approx 102k miles.

2 previous owners, but previous owner was the first official owner(?)(?)(?)... something to do with garage being first owner or something...i dunno...

FSH all stamped! Cambelt done at 80k miles.

Found a receipt for a new clutch at 60k miles...

I believe it's all completely stock, maybe others have word to the contrary based on pictures?

As for the furballs in the boot. They seem to love it!! I think they see a relative in it...

A lot of punch in a relatively small body, and 4x4... more or less the same as them...

I can't see me doing too much to it in the way of mods, not for a while yet. Probably only thing I can think of is maybe updating the brakes when they need doing, which probably won't be an age away <- on that note, do you guys tend to do a lot of those jobs yourselves? On the previous car I did a few odds and sods, but never got too involved with brakes or anything that could cause chaos if it went wrong 🙈

Ahh hahaha, the mods I can cope with, the unforseen mechanicals are the scary bits!

Actually one purchase I need to make is a footpack for my roof bars. Might have to nip to halfrauds as I have a 15% discount card that is to being a Ford owners member hehehe

Maybe I'll keep the costs down by replacing a few lights for LED's and maybe a nice panel filter haha...

I need to look through some build threads. I'm still getting my head round this site though.😀

Ah, question, do you guys run on premium fuel or standard stuff? I might fill up on premium next couple times and see what the mpg is like and weigh up costs etc..

Try using google to search the site.

Apologies if you are already aware of how to, but the format to do so is:

“search fields” site:”url of site”

For example, if you wish to search for led headlights on this forum, enter the following into your search engine:

led headlights site:subaruforester.org

This will bring up references to led headlights on the forum (you may get a couple of ad links at the top of the results - ignore them).

HTH

Pete

Thanks Pete, that's really helpful. Didn't even realise that was something that could be done!

....wish I'd known that years ago... would have probably helped at uni..hah

I was looking through the site and was reading a page from 2008 mentioning £60 mods that will get you over 300bhp mark, someone was even asking what mod could cost £60 and give such a great increase? Seems like a me thing to ask haha.

It's mad how much more in depth you guys are with tuning than any other car forums...well, specifically the ford forum...
