2008 - Spare key with remote

As above really. Car only came with one key that has the 2 buttons in the key for remote locking/unlocking. Any idea where to get a spare that wonít cost the earth. Someone suggested Timpsons. Googled it and folk are saying they were quoted £145!!

Cheers in advance.

I also have only one key, I've been wanting to get a replacement for a while but as much as I trust your services the only thing I'm worried about is my only key for the car getting lost in the post, if it did I'm completely stuck .

Completely understandable but let me clarify.
I always use Royal Mail special Delivery and insist customers send me via that too, it's RM's top tier service, costs just £6.50, guaranteed next day delivery pre 1pm and automatically insured for £500.
I've used Special Delivery for over 20 years and never had a single item go missing including over 80 keys sent to me and returned in the last few months alone, they take the security of these packages very seriously, to the point of having them sealed in separate bags from the post office to the sorting center where they enter a different room to regular mail specifically for special Delivery items.
If the worst DID happen then the £500 compensation would more than cover the cost of recovery to a dealer and a new key.

Hope that puts your mind at rest a bit.

Cheers!

Cheers for the replies.

May have misjudged Timpsons (reports on Google that is about the ridiculous prices they allegedly charge)

Chap says, if you set the alarm on your car with the fob and then unlock it with the key.

If it goes off when you unlock it., we have to send the key away to be programmed.

If it doesnt, we can do it while you wait.

How much I asked?

Between £59 to £69 !

So off down there on Monday!

Thanks once again for the heads up.

ATVB.

When you've been there and they've worked out they cant do a remote key for you then feel free to come back to me.

Also, you don't have an alarm, many people assume they have a factory alarm because they hear the chirps on lock/unlock, that's not the case and in fact any of the Cross Sports I've done don't even have a factory immobilizer, you might want to consider having an aftermarket immobilizer fitted, they're not expensive.

Cheers.

I tried timpsons earlier this year one of their "remote key specialist" branches, they checked my key, said they could do it, took my details and said they'd be in touch and I've not heard a peep since.

I'm off on Holiday soon and my other car is in the shop for some restoration work/mods but when I'm back, and have another car to use I'll be in touch muzza

Cheers for the reply.Your stuff looks top quality. You are correct Timpsons keys didnít fit! The key doesnít go deep enough into the barrel. I took it back and they tried to put more deeper grooves on it and they failed. TBF the gave me my Money back and were apologetic they were also very polite and tried to help so hats off to them. I have a chap popping in to see me this Friday and heís mobile and reckons he can do the key and he reckons the fob you can add to the existing one yourself heís referred me to you tube to pair the fob. I hope he can help. I would like to try yours however, Iím twitchy about the key getting lost in the post and I would be stuffed as I have no way of getting another key as I donít have any code a lot of the paperwork is in Japanese.

Cheers.

Cheers

What exactly has he pointed you towards on YouTube regards pairing? 😳 Whatever you do, don’t let him leave or hand over any money until the key is actually paired to the cars remote central locking system properly.

£15 for two non-immobiliser, non-remote keys is about right, but they couldn’t even get that right, it’s simple stuff. 🤦‍♂️ They very likely haven’t used the correct NSN14 blade.

You seem to be going around in circles here and I’d like to offer you a simpler solution if it helps. If you like, I’ll send you a blade of the correct type, you can take it (somewhere else) to be copy cut from your own, then just check it turns the barrel and send me back the blade and I’ll make you up a new key, as your car has no immobiliser I don’t need your original remote key in order to make up a new one.

Just an option for you.

Mozza you are a top bloke. Good scheme. However, the auto mobile key man came to ours today. He programmed in his mobile workshop (what a machine) a new key that works perfectly. I bought a fob off e bay and he tried to programme that no joy.

He checked up and found that the frequency used in Japan is totally different to the Uk. He has found a key with remote on the correct frequency and ordered it.

Chap was very helpful and was at ours fir over 45 minutes.

He charged just under £40 for a good quality robust key.

Iíd just like to thank you all on here for your as usual, dead helpful posts and fir your kind offer. Top people.

Thanks a million.
