Shovel and ax Yakima mounts added to the Coleman basket with extension, also got the AT up there (just tied down tho, don't have the spare tire mount). Put these up two weekends ago, dang is it nice having the shovel and ax up out of the way!!

smash81, you got a pretty serious off road rig going on in that basket. Looks pretty sweet!

Thanks! Gets some spectacular looks from other Subaru drivers around here (I bet we have the highest number of subarus per capita here, it's kinda insane). Soon hoping to add hi-lift and respective mount. If another member doesn't come up with a steel bumper setup that takes my money first! (heck if I could find the thread on it, maybe it's been deleted....)

I guess it's supposed to, but the ski carrier sticking up above it doesn't help any. Actually, you can't hear it with the windows up, even at highway speeds. I haven't really tried it with the windows down yet (too cold). Of course, I'll remove the ski carrier in another month, so I don't think it will be too bad with the windows down.

box--rack......rack--box

Not sure how I want to go...

box is more secure and weather proof but need a hitch mount for bikes and cant hold tall items

Rack is unsecured and not weather proof but I can add a bike rack on top to carry gear and bike at same time...and will hold taller items like coolers

Im leaning towards a box and a hitch mounted bike rack...need to research those...do they really impede access to rear hatch when bikes are loaded?

I have a hitch mount back rack as shown below. Mine is a sportworks(no longer made) but they're all very similar. With the bikes loaded, no you cannot open the hatch. However, this particular rack will fold down past horizontal, and I know that with the rearmost bike in place you can open the hatch. I haven't tried that with both bikes in place, yet. It also folds up to vertical for when the bikes come off to get it out of the way. I also have roof trays as shown(rackage content), as I sometimes have occasion to carry 3-4 bikes. I am thinking of getting a basket of some sort to mount to the crossbars, and then put the bike trays on top of that. With four people, I don't know if there'd be enough room behind the rear seats for all that camping gear, so it'd be good to get some of that stuff up top and out of the way.

In that photo, it looks like you are rolling on 26"ers.

I hate red winged black birds.

Ha, a Foz on 26ers would be quite funny. I like 29ers myself.

(You can see it on the back of the hitch rack.)

I'm not a fisherman, but hopefully someone will have an idea! The only things I've seen around here are homemade gettups with PVC piping...
