What tire size - biggest tires on a stock SF?

Well I’m back in a Subaru again, I recently moved out of L.A. and picked up a 99 Forester S. There are plenty of dirt roads around town to explore and both California City and Barstow are less than an hour away.
I need to buy new tires and was wondering what is the biggest tire size I can put on a stock SF Forester, I was tempted to pick up some 15” OEM steelies due to the difference in price of all terrains.
Will 215/65r16 ATs clear the stock rear strut? Will 215/75r15 clear the rear strut if I go that route?

It’s stock height and unfortunately no plans on a lift at the moment until I get settled in my new job.

I think we moved up to a 215/65/16 General Altimax all-season tire. They clear in the rear with full tread, no rubbing at either end of the vehicle that I've noticed, even at full lock with a full load. No lift on ours either.

General Grabber at2 has a little bit of rub at full lock. Fits under the spring perch. 2000 Forester 215/65/16.

Thanks for the responses, I’m still debating if I’ll pick up some 15” wheels from the junkyard due to 15” wheels having more choices.

Won't hurt to have a second spare of wheels/tires tbh. At least you can get a different tire set for the 15" wheels.

Also another question before I fully decide, will 215/75r15 or 215/65r16 fit in the spare tire well?
Thanks
