How Many Foresters have had no real troubles

As the title states how many Foresters owners have had no real problems or issues. Just turn the key/push the start and go. I see many posts with real problems. Just wondering.

Although low mileage brought her home in September 2018 just have under 1900 miles on it. Replaced the HU. Runs fine have not seen any issues as I replaced the flasher and put some led turn signals on the front. Gas mileage is improving but not the same as the computer when I manually figure it. This is the same on the wife’s 2013 Escape computer and manually figuring the mileage is not exactly the same. So it must be figuring something with that new math that my granddaughter brings home.

It has been almost 2 years and over 38,000 miles on my 2017 XT without a problem! It has been a great vehicle that I still look forward to driving.

I drove a 2010 2.5X Limited for over 8.5 years and 197k miles. No major problems and relatively few minor problems. I've driven my 2018 2.5i Limited for 17k miles and only problem (other than rattles) was the HU which the dealer replaced before I drove it off the lot.

Apart from a recall to fix a potential wiring issue in the steering column, mine has been flawless.

I've been doing a lot of long, high speed drives (~450 miles/day) recently, some towing, and it burnt just under half a litre/quart of oil in 12,500 km/7,700 miles.

2014 2.5i Premium had CVT issues most prevalent during the first 10,000 miles. Surging and overactive tip in, plus vibration. Never went away and the dealer claimed ďthey all did thatĒ. Traded that one in.

2015 FXT has drivetrain vibration at 25 mph that persists. Dealer claims itís ďnormalĒ. Keyless ignition failed at about 10,000miles. Carbon build up from DI caused mileage to drop at about 30,000miles. Cleaning regime destroyed both oxygen sensors. Carbon fouling is a long term problem.

Flawless? No, but not bad, either. Iíd say about average for my 55 years of car ownership. Iíve put about a hundred thousand miles combined on my two Foresters so far. I donít expect my current FXT to last more than 100,000 miles without major issues because I donít trust the drivetrain elements. The CVT and turbo/DI donít inspire confidence. Iíll trade it before then.

Only issue was a cracked coil in the 2001. Well, that and two of them being hit by idiot teen drivers but I canít blame Subaru for that.

2 years ownership and 91,000 kms on my 2010 XT. No issues. Just maintenance. Though it has recently developed a small knocking noise when driving on rough roads on the front left suspension. I am yet to figure out which component is at fault.

I've had no "real" problems that money can't fix

I think there are just too many variables to make this a worthwhile question as it does not take into account how the vehicle is used or its age.

As an example, my 17 YO Foz has had an extremely hard life and has tackled many of the most difficult tracks Australia has to offer so I expect things may, and do, go wrong whereas my sister's Impreza might do a highway trip once a year and visits the shops the rest and nothing goes wrong.

Exactly Kevin!

I had my 2003 XS for 10 years and never went bush in it. When I swapped it with my daughter for her 2005 Mazda 6 it had 224,781 kms on it and still had the OEM suspension under it. From memory the major components outside of normal servicing were:

Clutch Kit (DMF conversion) - Rear Crankshaft Shaft Seal - Radiator & Thermostat + Front sway bar links replaced a month before swap with daughter.

Great handling and reliable car for what I did with it.

The only problem I have had with my wife's 2014 was the factory battery being too weak. I replaced it with a higher CCA rating from Walmart and have not had any problems since.

03x and 05XT here. Problems with both but neither one has ever left me stranded. They are old, and i think subarus are prone to certain issues especially back then, but the core cars are solid and reliable.
