2014XT Check engine/Check emissions light randomly turning on and off

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has experienced their check engine light/ check emissions, hill start assist light, SI Drive blinking S, and eye sight light randomly going on and off. For the past few weeks it will turn on and maybe the same day or a few days later it will just randomly turn off. I thought maybe it was a loose gas cap but it seems fine unless i have a bad cap. Otherwise it's definitely on, and I turn until it clicks.

This happened to me once last year and I brought it in to get checked by subaru. While driving there the lights turned off and they said they didn't see any stored codes. I thought maybe it was just a random thing but now that it's happened 3 separate times in a few weeks I'm concerned.

The car drives fine when the lights come on. If anyone has an opinion I'd be grateful to hear it.

2014 xt approx 67k miles.
Recall WQW58 was completed and passed leak down test at 57k or so miles.

Sounds like an 02 sensor might be going south....

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll respond back when I find out what it is in case anyone else is experiences this. I'm going to drop it off tomorrow to see what's causing it.

The one thing I forgot to add is that I had brought it to an autozone just to see what code it was pulling and they said they didn't see any stored codes either which i thought was weird. I was under the impression that if a check engine light comes on it should pull a code.

Thanks again

I have a similar issue I'm trying to diagnose. My working hypothesis is failing O2 or MAF sensor...

You wil need to pull the fault codes or it's anyone's best guess... Do you have access to a code reader? If not, some auto parts stores will read them for free.

My local O'Relly's offered to plug in and diagnose the codes, but their OBS did not have any data loaded for 2014+ Subarus, yet.

I was told the air fuel sensor went for anyone that might experience the same issue.. They ordered the part and it will be installed this week.

I also have been experiencing this the last two weeks (2015 XT touring, 34k miles) I had he recall done last year or whenever it was that it came out. I'm starting to get concerned as well. I did the same thing the first time, thought it was the gas cap. Anytime it happens its of course when I'm on my way into work in the morning or late at night when the dealership is already closed. If you restart the car 4 - 5 times it goes away. But as OP said it drives perfectly fine it's just stuck in S mode. Hopefully next time it happens I am not in the middle of something and I can get it over to the dealer or autozone.

Please respond to this thread if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. Thanks @TheSub for updating what your issue was.

I've experienced the same thing multiple times over the last month. I'm at 33k, so almost exactly like @Clean15' . My car has been at the body shop for over a week b/c I got backed in to, so I haven't been able to check for a code.

If there's no code, I don't know what to tell the dealer to check for, since I'd like to bring it in before magic number 36000.

Do any of you leave anything plugged into your OBD2 port, I have this issue when I leave my bluetooth OBD2 reader plugged in. It would xmas tree all my dash/warning lights on occasion with no codes on some startups when left plugged in. Stopped leaving it in and it stopped happening, left it in and it started again. Think it had something to do with the bluetooth trying to pair to my phone during startup. Hasnt happened since.

My wife's 2014 2.0 forester had the same problem. The lights would appear and disappear at random and never registered a code. After several visits to the dealer they replaced the stoplight switch by the brake peddle and the problem was solved.

So this happened again a few times this weekend. I have a BT dongle plugged in to relay data to my dashcam.
I feel like this started before I installed the camera, though. However, I cannot be 100% sure.

Try removing the dongle and see how it goes.

my 14 FXT (38K km) throwing U0101 and U0155 intermittently... clears when car left overnight.
Dealer review ... short answer, no help.
Understand its a "Network" issue of some kind. Just dont know what else I can do? what else I can say to get it rectified?

Guidance/advice here would be appreciated.

Friend of mine had the same issue with his '14 FXT.

He took it to the dealership and they told him his battery had gone bad. He installed a new battery and the problem hasn't re-occurred.

(I'm no claiming that that would be the issue with yours)
