Arrow CLOSED! GROUP BUY - No-Drill Front License Plate Adapter for 98-08/14+ Forester

By popular demand, we will be running another group buy for our No-Drill Front License Plate Adapters.

If you have noticed those round factory holes in your front bumper you may be wondering why dealerships don't use them to attach your front license plate. This is because the holes are designed to line up with the mounting points of Japanese plates, which are spaced further apart than ours. The default solution for American dealerships for front plate installation is to drill self-tapping sheet metal screws into your pristine bumper. Ouch!! Not only are these drilled holes unsightly, but in many cases they eventually strip out and let go because no anchoring hardware or support is used behind the bumper cover aside from a little flimsy flashing.

Our billet aluminum adapter bracket mounts to the existing round holes with JDM plate spacing, and provides a secure and durable mounting solution for your US or Canadian plate - no drilling required! In addition, it allows you to add a customized plate frame, holder, or cover of your choice.

Even if your bumper has already been drilled by the dealer, our adapter brackets offer a much sturdier and more dependable way of mounting your front plate. The bracket features a low-profile design and is covered by the license plate and any plate frame or holder you wish to use. New and improved rubber fasteners for the current models create a buffer with additional clearance between the bracket and the bumper to insure your paint remains pristine.

Brackets are made from billet aluminum - machined, de-burred and tumbled. Ready for you to apply your favorite finish - paint, plasti-dip, powder-coat, anodize - or use as-is (they will have somewhat of an industrial look). We will not offer the brackets with hand-brushed finish this time to minimize turnaround times for orders and to keep pricing low. All necessary mounting hardware is included in the kit.

I'm using it with a WeatherTech ClearCover. Works great, though I did need to put some foam tape on the bottom rear of the license plate to stop it from rattling against the bumper (due to the plastic bumper flexing).

Sorry to hear you had rattling problems. Jog my memory here... did you get the newer neoprene bumper fasteners (3/16" lip/head thickness) with your bracket kit, or was it the previous, thinner style?

It wasn't a problem at all with the bracket - the bracket is great. Pretty sure I got the old style fasteners as I recall the rubber being flush with the bumper. I had to use the screws that came with the WeatherTech cover; the (very nice looking) hex heads were too large for the frame.

My issue was the distance between the bottom of the plate and the bumper; it would flap about a bit, because the plastic bumper is flimsy and would flex. My '03 Forester did it as well, with the dealer-drilled holes and self-tapping screws. Just a downside to not having 4 screws holding the plate down.

We are using the Weathertech cover For the rear plate, but I feel like I want a full plastic back plate before I install the Weathertech in the front.

The genuine Subaru article should work in combination with the FD bracket kit - SOA342L120 is the part number. But it will not sit snug against the bracket due to the built-in spacers on the back side of the holder/backing plate:

It costs more to ship than the actual unit to Canada? Am I reading that right?

Unfortunately that's what the USPS is now charging for a Priority Mail shipment to Canada: DMM Notice 123 Price List

I've added an option for First Class International service - but please note that delivery times may vary and the shipment will likely take longer to arrive than with the Priority International service.

It's a BumpShox license plate holder bolted to the adapter bracket.
