2020 Forester XT

What do you bet Subaru will come out with a Forester XT or Sport XT next year?

The 2.4T, the 'C' shaped LED daytime running lights (Strangely available on the Sport trim in Canada. Not the US), steering responsive headlights, just like the higher trim levels, dual exhaust, maybe some other incremental updates as Subaru always does.

It's obvious the 5% Subaru said bought the XT were predominantly male. I live in Subaru country and of the 2019 Foresters I've seen driving around were of the Limited trim on down, driven by women. And the only two Sport trim levels I've seen were driven by men.
And as it seems Subaru is going to go with the 2.4T as their XT motor. They've also taken criticism for doing away with a turbo Forester as other manufactures have stepped in to take that spot, like Mazda, Honda, Hyundai. And after all Subaru is a business and they want to make money. So I could totally see a 2020 Forester XT version coming out.

I dont see it happening as soon as 2020. But on the next model refresh I can see it sneaking back in especially with the global platform they are rolling out.

The 2019 is already on their new global platform. And as I eluded to, the competition is more than willing to fill that turbo 4 void. And I can't see it costing much to Subaru to drop the 2.4T drive train into the new Forester and offer an XT version very soon. Not too mention the weight and size of the new Forester. I can't imagine that 2.4T would have to work very hard and could achieve some pretty good fuel economy in a Forester.

Criticism by no one that matters. They are selling all the cars they can make. The FA 2.4 is too an expensive an engine to put in a vehicle that there is zero demand for.

Be careful what you wish for.

5% or so isn't zero. And when it comes to modern day automobile manufacturing, adding another motor that's already in production can't cost very much. So I still see Subaru reviving the Forester XT line. Build it and they will come. Japan already has a version with a eBoxer engine, or concept version of it. Get rid of that hybrid and throw in the 2.4T or heck, even bring back the 2.0T.

I certainly hope they are sensible enough to do this. i have heard great things about the Mazda turbo, so will look there if Subaru continues to disappoint.

Many people complaining they go rid of the XT and wanting Subaru to bring it back will never buy a new one or will never buy one at all. If all of these people actually bought an XT, the sales numbers woiudl have supported keeping it around. Unfortunately the majority of people buying Foresters preferred the non-turbo leaving the people who actually bought an XT in a very small minority.

The Forester XT will be very dependent on how well the Outback XT sells. If a majority of Outback sales are XT models, then it makes a strong case to possibly bring back a Forester XT model.

And "putting another engine "won't cost very much"..different CVT, different exhaust, electronics, interior gauges, ...
Lots more thatI am not aware of. Totally way more than dropping in a different engine. And they are making as many foresters, xtrecks, OB's as they probably can. A year from now Thread: "21 Forester XT"

I live in a town and surrounding area..tons of Subarus. Not one 2018 XT except for mine.

I have a solution on this if they only offered an XT version they would sell more. Problem solved :)

I'd be surprised if the XT is revived. A hybrid is more likely, imo, with a full electric in the next model as more countries tighten emission standards and plan on banning gasoline and diesel cars by the end of the 2020s.

2013 (US 2014) Forester 2.5i-L + Eyesight.

My ‘19 has plenty of room under the hood and what appears to be a removable panel on the left of the rear bumper. It’s sort of like they are planning a dual outlet exhaust setup. What could that possibly be useful for?

The lack of an 2019 FXT left us with one option. We really like the new 2019 3.6R Outback. If you get a chance spend some time driving one. It is so smooth. I'm thinking about selling the 04XT and keeping the 98S.

The 2020 Outback will have the 2.4L Turbo... and that in itself redeems Subaru for me vs the Forester Sport. I'll refrain from using bad words for the "Sport." With 136k miles on my '14FXT, the new 2020 Outback Turbo is looking SO GOOD :)
