I happen to think it looks pretty sharp. That said, I would never own one with orange trim, I would be entirely sick of it in about a week. Not sure of the demographic they are hoping to grab with that, but to each their own. Some focus group somewhere must have liked the look enough for Subaru to put it into production.
On the other hand. I happen to completely agree that the strong-arming of people into trim packages to get one desired item is slightly underhanded. Unfortunately, every manufacturer does this almost universally now. The dealer knows that you can go right to the parts department and order every single bit available on the car from the parts catalog. They are betting however, that you'd rather finance the extra 2K on the front end, as opposed to paying out of pocket for singular options. Also, as an example, those wheels and bigger nav screen purchased piece meal through Subaru after the fact are going to be at least double the 2K front end cost. They know this too, which is why most people end up buying the more expensive trim level because it's cheaper and easier for them to do so. In the end the manufacturer bolsters their bottom line, and the customer gets more than they were looking for. It's supposed to be a win-win...in theory anyhow.
Your best bet is probably not to get the sport model and go aftermarket for the wheels and bigger screen if that's what you're after. It's obviously a bit of a hassle to do so, but you'll end up with wheels you'll love instead of "less ugly", plus no orange trim ;)
