The springs are what support the weight of the vehicle. If the back end is sagging compared to original, with no load in the vehicle, it's likely due to metal fatigue of the springs. It's possible the springs are in this condition due to being overworked by worn out dampers. However, just replacing the dampers would likely have zero effect on ride height unless there's a difference in spring perch specifications compared to what's currently installed. But that's just my opinion.
