OEM downpipes are very different. They bolt up to the tranny.
For instance there is no way an STi downpipe will bolt up to Forester or WRX. The STi 6 speed tranny is wider and the down pipe bracketry is unique and doesn't bolt up. The OEM downpipes for all these models have different part #'s. They even vary by tranny.
Do some OEM DP's flow better than others? I would guess yes. Though aftermarket downpipes will most often be far superior.
You said it correctly - sort of. The bracket on the stock down pipe does bolt to the tranny. However, the STi downpipe will still bolt up. It just will not use the point on the transmission since the STi dp bracket is too short. All of the other connections are the same.SuperRu said:
