Hello everyone. I'm Troy Winner and just jumped into Real Cars... (You'll understand later).. lol..

Soooooo.. I had a 98' Forester, until I sold it with 263k miles, about 15-16 months ago..
At which time, I picked up a 2k Max SE with 33k miles.. Man, I Love this car!!! But the 4" of snow we got last year. Showed me, the 220hp FWD Max, wasn't going to cut it!

So I started looking for another Forester. No other Subie, was going to fill my needs. AWD, off-road capable, hulling cargo, camping in the back, driving it sideways thru town(when it snows, I work 12hr shifts. Town is dead!)

During my search, I started looking for XT's, exclusively!

Then I found it!
05 FXT, 117k miles, 4,400$, CLEAN! But...
It had a rebuilt title, from a front end hit. Work was clean and I wasn't looking to resell, so I snagged it!
Driving it home, July 2nd, 16.. (yeah, I'm a little late)

I took it straight to my mechanic and told him to check it, top to bottom and front to back!
A 1,000$ later, I was cleared for fun! (Timing kit, water pump, transmission lines(they were kinked), etc..)

I started looking around and buying parts, right after that... Some before that... Lol..
Round one.. before hand..

After the timing kit was done, that I was told was done. I bought all other fixings.. changed oil, cabin filter..

Air filter

We can say, I was a little blinded by the Car, itself.. the rest didn't matter..

Changed downpipe, stage 1 Cobb tune, done..

Then.. bigger intercooler, STI bpv, Cobb catback, and some silicone connector tubes.. stage 2 tune.

Running Good!!!

1,800 miles in...... It stuttered on the way to work. I pulled over, XT shut off.. this was a Wed.. on Friday, we started pulling spark plugs.. #3 cylinder was trying to keep the spark plug. It turned out hard, the whole way. Realized why, when it came out, Flat!
Camera went in... Piston was in pieces!!!

Dreaded words, came next... You need a new motor... AaaaaaHHHHHHHHH!!!

More to come.. the exciting journey, begins! (This is up to, mid Aug)

Well that sucks, what are your plans for the rebuild, same as what you had or..? GL!
Well.. I guess I shoulda cleared that up, at the end of the first post..

This is a late build thread.. work had me tied up and wore out.

The car is back together and running. I'm actually due for my first oil change. I'll unfold all of that soon..

I started looking around, for a new heart.
Priced from 800$ used, to 10k$ built...
After mentally building one. Stage 2 AIG short block, and S1 goodies, to build one. I was around 7,500 and still not put together or put in the car, I bounced back to a fellow members sale ad..

Description..

Aug 27th..
He it is, loaded up at, @sleeperxt house..

That's right, I took my wife's Prius, to pickup my new FXT motor! Lol..
Way better on gas then the jacked up XJ! Easier to load, too.. haha..

Now, I come from 4x4(2 built XJ's) and RC Rock Crawling. (The RC/Real Car, title)
Specially with the RC's, I know, if I'm going to build it, I'm going to build it Right! It costs alot more now, but less in the long run. Changing budget parts for better parts, later, costs money!

Well, my "I just want a little extra pep" thought, turned into a whole new thought, after I picked up this motor.. yikes!

A Lot happened over the next month and it drained Every penny I had! (I won't add it up, visually.. I hate the end result.. lol..)
Car, initial mechanic checkup, and motor, has me a little over 11k$(not including the interest) I'll just leave it at that.. lol..
All aftermarket parts, beyond that, cash(so it doesn't count, right!?) Haha..

Parts: engine,
Built 06 STI EJ255
Cobb:
SF intake, turbo heat shield, V3 AP(new), catback exhaust
Perrin turbo inlet
Forced Performance HTA71(new)
Spearco tmic
Mishimito hoses(new)
GFB BPV(new)
TGV delete's(homebrew)
Perrin EL header's
Invidia up and down pipes
ADD W1 catch can(new)
02-03 JDM scoop
Koyorad radiator(new)
B&M Supercooler(new)
Walbro 255(new)
DW850's(flow checked)(sidefeed)
Optima red top(new)

Engine, before it went in

In and how it is now..

I have wonderful pics of all this good stuff.. I'll get them posted..

Well, that's under the hood..

Went for a tune, Sept 27th!

At 375whp, the torque converter slipped. That was around the 8th run..
So the tune was dialed back and the torque taken out of it.

325whp at 18psi..
Not bad.. not great.. but let me tell you. When it hit, it hit hard! Like front tires spinning, around 6k rpm(on a wet road)
Sept 28th, at work..

Now we have some miles on it, Jeff(my tuner) brought all that in and turned it up.. haven't been back for a dyno, but.. my boost is turned up, 20psi, and it comes in Alot sooner!
I can feel it starting in the 2,500-2,800 range.. way more fun for daily driving!
I have what I had by 46-4800, but not maxed out. She likes to just keep pulling!
I'm guessing I'm running 350whp now..

A month later and a front pass axle replaced(boot ripped but still working properly. changed it anyways), I'm ready for my first oil change!

Been working alot, but had the day off, today..
I started my day by pulling the Perrin EL header's. The grimmspeed gaskets didn't fully seal, so I added a small touch of gasket sealer.
I did the header gaskets as well as the up-pipe gasket.

Then I moved to test fitting the JDM sport, front grill.

When I went to show my friend/mechanic.(which put my motor in and bolted all the goodies on)..
He said, "now it's sporty, you have to pull the roof racks"..
I wasn't having it! But he won.. lol..

After that, I asked him how to remove the sticker on the roof rails. And the dealership stickers, on the hatch..
Which lead to the Subaru security stickers in the windows..
Then the emblems off the hatch. Ugh..

(That's just light, off the right of the license plate)
Now I feel like I need to do something about the ugly license plate!
Maybe a D.A.R.E. license plate(it's all black with white lettering). Maybe just a license plate cover.. either way..
I Like the look!

Winter wheels look like they were made just for your Foz - perfect match!
I couldn't agree more, the color match, is awesome! Gold star for finding them on Craigslist... Lol..
contrary to popular vote , sways are not the secret sauce

there are a few on here that I believe know how to make a subie handle well and still work right
I wish those "few" would speak up.. lol..

My mechanic suggested end links, at a minimum, to start with.

I want to get a good set of brake pads on it, too. Hawk HPS, is what I'm looking at.

Info overload ready! Number sent..

I'm a spirited driver and Love cornering!

I want it to handle like my 2k Max SE, during spring, summer, and fall..

I do also get off-road a good bit. Specially hunting season and winter.
I use the built XJ, for more brutal off-road adventures.

Did you have any large gaps with the JDM grill from not using the JDM headlight surround extensions? Can't quite see if you used a garage door liner to full in the gaps or not. Thanks!

Oh man, I didn't realize you posted..

The sides and top, meet up perfectly.
The black you see between the bumper and the bottom lip of the grill, is a door liner.
The bottom of the grill comes out further and leaves a gap.. (if only I had a JDM bumper!) Lol..
For a few dollars of gap filler, of some sort... Well worth the outcome, imo.. :)

It's still only mach'd up/ snapped in with the stock clips.

So I have been doing some trading, selling, buying, of vehicles and stuff..
Traded my 95 XJ, for a 06 Baja turbo w/rod knock..
Black with a 5mt..

And my mechanic, that was Never doing turbo Subaru's..
05 OBXT, with rod knock and 101k miles.. CHEAP!!!!

So I nabbed the wheels and got a set of General Altimax Arctic's for them..

Then I sent it away, yesterday.. to get it back today!

It's getting somewhere!!!!!

Next thing... I got a email from John, at IPT, and my IPT 4eat is done!!!

In preparation for the tranny, I have rounded up topfeed TGV's(to be deleted), topfeed fuel rails, lines, FPR's, etc, and getting some ID1000cc topfeed injectors...
If I'm going to go back for a tune, I'm going to do it right and get the most out of my setup! :)
I was at 70-75% of the 850 sidefeeds(325whp).. probably maxed out at 375whp.. (which is when the TC slipped, on the initial tune)

Shouldn't be any problems breaking 400+whp w/ 1000's..

Saaweeet!!! I'll be around!

Would like to get together and check out your FXT!

I just found out, one of the Subaru dealer's, in Montoursville, has a 04 FXT, as well.. he just put some forged internals in it.

Now just to get Ken around! @sleeperxt
