Hello,

Will the subaru dealer update the service history each time I take my forester in for service?

Or is this something we have to enter ourselves?

Having owned Toyotas, those Toyota dealers enter all service history by the car's VIN.

No big deal either way, but just want to know.

The particular dealership will keep the work done on your car in their independent records. Say you move and a warranty issue comes up, you will need to provide the name of that old dealership and they'll fax over their records. If the dealership folds and you dont keep records you're out of luck.

At least, this is the way it worked for me last month. They were not able to look up my records on a central system by vin.

This is why its very important that everything is listed on your dealer receipts. I've noticed they tend to put the minimal amount of information possible on the receipts and leave a ton of stuff out.

You can put your vin in and make an account. Some dealers will update it, but not all, they probably will if you ask. You can also update it yourself.
