will 06 forester struts direct fit my 99 forester

are the sg 03-08 struts a direct fit to my 99 forester? i have read people do this for lift and more room for tires but i just picked up 06 struts and the top hats are horseshoe shaped and 99 strut top hats are triangles. do i have to swap the top hats for them to work or will they bolt right in?
