As you may know, a friend of mine made me some STI side decals for my forester, you know the ones that say Subaru Technica International. So anyways, I was wondering why I didn't get it to say XTI like the popular trend going on with Forester owners and realized that it's because "STI" has meaning and "XTI" is just three letters that look cool. I guess.. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

So I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this topic, why would you choose XTI over STI. I'll start, if I was getting one I'd get STI because I have STI parts on my car and it has meaning and is a real term.

simply because STi is more of a designated label for one of Subaru's car lines. XTi has more meaning and stand for a separate performance designation for us wagon owners.

Words and phrases only hold meaning if meaning is applied. I believe we forester owners apply the meaning XTi = performance oriented Subaru Forester. (X-VIN designation T-turbo)

Since North America never got an STI model Forester, yet a lot of STI parts will fit, and are swapped over, I think its fair to give it its own North American designation XTI. That gives the XTI meaning, created by good old North American ingenuity.:rock: (when the world gives you lemons, make lemonade)

Even though a STI decal compliments many modded XT's it's only window dressing. I think it would be cool if people stared putting on XTI decals that look like the STI versions. Who knows maybe Subaru USA will read this thread and offer a US only version of the STI and call it the XTI.

And then Subaru stole the term for their SEMA concept.

^Yup. I have a copy of the 2010 spt booklet from the dealer and it has that car on the cover.
