I have a 2002 Forester. There is a whining noise only when I'm on the gas over 2k rpm. Take my foot off the gas it goes away. Had someone tell me it was the mid differential but it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. Can a CV joint do this?

Nothing helpful to add, but the whining noise from the passenger side got me laughing...

Fluid was changed not that long ago. Didn't replace the diff. Seems to be coming from the front. The forum won't let me upload a video.

I'm having trouble locating a mid differential for an automatic transmission. Is there such an animal or do I need a whole new tranny?

Diff fluid. It sounds like a honda in reverse. Taking it to a mechanic tomorrow. I'll let you know what he says

Confused as U 1st said U didn't replace, then you said you did.
Some have stated the CENTER diff (for some yrs and trans )is integral with the trans and has special silicone oil, and that the whole unit is just swapped out.
