I found this piece of shaped rubber tubing next to my 2008 Forester 2.5XT AT the other day but I can't for my life figure out where it goes.

Does anyone recognize it?? Where does it go???

Outer diameter is ~3/4" (20mm)

There is of course the chance that it doesn't belong to my car but it is doing baaad milage so I suspected it came off the emission control or some vacuum system.

16l/100km or ~14mpg

Your input is most welcome!

Seems hard to believe that it would separate from both ends and fall off. Was it under the car? Is this an apartment complex?

Its in the country side and its only me living here. -it was right under the car but it has been so windy here that it may have come from somewhere else.
I agree, it seems weird.
Unless it has been on its way a long time and been loose in one end long ago.
I have had poor mpg a long time so if it is a vacuum hose or something for emission control that could explain that. -there is also a large crack in the hose.

I take it that you have looked at the engine (both above and below) to see if there is any obvious place it could have come from?

Have you heard any "strange" noises from the car?
