Unless Subaru has changed the location over the years it should be near the firewall a bit left of center (standing in front of the car). If you have an XT the intercooler may be obscuring your view.

My 2015 STi was a sealed trans and had no dip stick. Guessing the the newer Forester is the same as well. My '05 WRX was under the intercooler on the left hand side.

i read that it's underneath the intake manifold on the left side and a little back. i'll check my car and take a look

I have a 2014 Forester with 2.5 engine and 6 sp manual. As noted in a previous reply the transmission dip stick is on the passenger side near the firewall, down in the bowels. There is a large plastic finger pull which can be reached by sticking a left arm down to the transmission.

The 2019 Foresters don't have one.... I looked for a while and then checked with the manual ! My first car without one.

@danornan 2018 was the last year that the forester was offered in 6 speed manual , 2019 got rid of it and only in CVT
