I was looking on eBay and found some wheel arch moldings for $136.76. It states chrome in the title, but I don't see any chrome in the photos. It states 2013-2014, but we know the 2014 is different. The photos show a 2014 model with the wheel arch moldings.
I've seen some Japanese tuners run these on their SJG's. One tuner showed how they had to make a small modification to the bottom of the front molding in order to get to sit flush. Pics attached.
Other than that small modification they seem to look as if they fit perfectly. I'd give them a try but I'm still holding out for the OEM's.
I emailed the seller and he said they are for the 2014 Forester and will fit. Tempting since the Subaru is not going to make them for the 2014...at least at this time.
IIRC the official story was that arch moldings were produced but did not meet Subaru's standards.. Perhaps moldings on ebay are those loosely fitting moldings? We need a volunteer.
wheel arch moldings are not available from Subaru - any good alternatives?
Today, May 12, 2014, my Subaru dealer in Virginia said that Subaru is not making available wheel arch moldings for the Forester 2014 or 2015. Has anyone installed alternative moldings that they would recommend? Thanks!
Search Google for "3m wheelmolding forester". I don't want to link to it since he's not a vendor, but he is a forum member. I don't have these and don't know if they work as advertised.
Probably a chinese replica, most likely by SUBAGE. They make all those aftermarket underguard knockoffs for the crosstrek as well.
Besides fitment issues, I would be wary of different colored black plastic that we have on the rest of the car. I saw some photos of those mouldings on ebay before and it looked like two types of black.
Heres what the OEM ones look like. Took these snapshots from a JDM forester accessory brochure. Gives the forester that XV look.
As "rugged" as the wheel arch mouldings look on the Forester, I feel like the way it looks without does have a more premium look. For some reason the plastic covers make the car look overly eco-box if that makes any sense.
