Brought my GF's 98 Foz down to the shop to quiet down some rattling heatshields and look into an exhaust leak. I found the resonator to be separated from the midpipe on the upstream side! Broke the weld all the way around.....this was causing the rattling too!

Put her up on stands, wire wheeled the broken areas and fired up the little MIG. Tacked things where they seemed to be most happy, removed the midpipe and axleback and proceeded to weld the ever living snot out of the area. It isn't pretty....but it's quiet!

As an added bonus, I didn't have to spend time with her sister this afternoon.... win-win! :)

Didn't drive it once, there's so much snow in the wheel wells that I have no suspension. And the wheel gap is too small to get anything out. Oh well, pay the price for lookin fly!

Changed the oil on my wife's car. Why is it that no matter how much I tighten (or not) the oil filter, there is still oil on the bottom of it when I go to change it next? Might be time to change filter brands.

so instead since it was about 52 degrees today I washed the road salt off her by putting her up on ramps and sprayed under it with a hose then hand washed the rest of the Fozzie. she is nice and clean again.

With five seasons on my Hakka 4s (9/10ths of the rubber, studs pretty much gone), it was time to replace them...Quicksilver got a set of Hakkapeliita 7 tires, just out up here in Alaska! "Bearclaw technology"!!

Yesterday took my Foz for a run to Newark Airport and then to Mom's house to pick up some late Xmas presents for the Foz, Alpine Type-R 6.5 speakers. Giving the Foz a bath today on the way home from work and into the garage for a few days off and back to my commuter car.

what's your process here? I used yo have the same problem till I read about a trick on another board.

When you tighten the filter, sometimes the rubber gasket gets a wrinkle in it, resulting in a leak.

If you apply a thin film of oil to the rubber gasket on the filter with your finger, you get just enough lube so that it doesn't grab and wrinkle as you spin it on and tighten up to make a good seal.

No more leaky filter!
