Swapped wheels with my parent's Foz.. Sort of, and started an epic detailing session which consists of interior detailing and clay bar/waxing the whole car. Won't be driving it for at least a week so might as well get it cleaned up!

Oh and then I drove to Sacramento where I met Jared (forgot his username) and bought his stock '06 (I think) 17" wheels to use as snow / rally wheels!

Hard core. I know I should do the clay bar thing, but it seems like a lot of work. What do you plan to use as winter tires next winter? I highly recommend Continental Extreme Winter Contact as a dedicated snow tire if you don't have something already. They're quiet, but they do really well in snow and on ice.

Got a Walbro and VF39 sitting on the bench in the garage. New gaskets and washers come tomorrow. Do I dare try to install this on my own while I have a spare car at my disposal???

Not so much work, but patience.

Use the right lubrication spray (I prefer liquid detailing wax, but some will say use soapy water. IMO soapy water breaks the clay down faster).

Remember to rotate, flip, and reform the bar every few minutes to stop buildup.

Dont do it in direct sunlight.

Don't clay a hot car.

And something new I recently learned...if your garage floor gets wet after a clay session, watch your step. Might as well be ice on the floor.

My wifes 2000 Legacy looks 5 years younger after its first clay session. Worth every bit of the minimal effort it took and a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Put the SLS rear dampers back in as the new rear springs were sitting a bit low. Discovered that they work really well with the stiffer springs and new KYB front struts... think I have perfected standard ride height handling - easily on a par now with WRX struts.

Finished the job of replacing the Timing belt on my 2001 Fozzie.

I am going to share an old biker tip that is useful as well on the subie.

when taking the crank pulley bolt loose and needing to keep the crank from turning and easy and safe trick is. pull out a spark plug and take some thin nylon rope and feed into the cylinder, then turn the crank by the bolt until the piston lodges the rope against the head. then when you have the bolt tightened again just turn the crank the opposite direction and pull the rope out.

mine is the SOHC 2.5L and the belt change was simple. I did it the same way as the video on youtube that showed holding the belt to the pulleys with some office paper clamps. belt cost me $49.00 from advanced auto.

hope this tip helps someone else that needs to do this job. my engine was at 108,000 so I figured this as preventive service.

Did a short errand in our Forester (fuel, library trip--less than 4 miles total) and saw no fewer than 8 Subaru Foresters in my immediate area! I have never encountered so many Foresters before. It makes me smile every time I see one. :icon_cool:
