Thought it would be fun to start a thread on everyday things we do here and there to our beloved Subarus. The weather is getting nicer, so I'm sure we will all be outside more tinkering on our cars.

Today has been a busy day for me! Got my Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 tires in yesterday from Tirerack for the Sti and had them mounted and balanced today by a real cool guy off of Nasioc. If anyone wants his info in the PNW PM me. He runs a legit business out of his home doing tire stuff n such, for a really good deal. But let me tell ya, these tires are STICKY!!! They pick up gravel everywhere but they are SOOOoo nice! It feels like a different car

When I got back from joyriding the STi in it's new tires, I washed the Forester (for the second time this week) and finally got around to hand waxing it. Looks pretty, but boy is there a lot of bumps and bruises on it!

What did you guys do to the subarus today??

I've been toiling with the idea of removing my wannabe STi emblems and going back to stock, I love the idea of the JDM rear emblem, does it come with a template for proper alignment?

No templates were included with the badge, but if you do a Google Image search on "Forester Cross Sports" there are a ton of images of showing where to mount the rear badge. Trinidoc also has a member's journal on here that has pics of where the rear badge mounted.

In case you were wondering, the SoJ part # is 93073SA360, "LETTER MK R CROSS"
On Saturday my Forester developed a bad whine noise from the engine bay. Sounded almost like a supercharger or something.... I suspected the alternator at first, then quickly realized it was likely the AC idler pulley.

Sure enough after a quick listen with a stethoscope we determined my AC idler pulley was the culprit. Took about 5 minutes to replace. Pulley was $37.
Sad Day

After nine years and 191,000+km of highway driving, I got the news today that my Forester friend will need $3,900 worth of work. That's after $3,000 for the cylinder head job and $1,000 on front wheel bearings. That's enough to make more than a few payments on a new vehicle - hopefully one that will not bio-degrade at 200,000km.

HI John, for that sort of cash, cant you just buy a replacement foz?

Or a new engine?

$3000 for cylinder head work???? really! are you getting done? I just had my heads completely rebuilt, replaced a valve, replaced the valve guides, and threw in new seals. All in all, it only cost me $432 for the pair. I've never heard of a cylinder head job costing that much unless they are completely replacing them with OEM ones...........or getting new high performance cams, oversized valves, etc. And even then, I've only heard of people paying around $1800. Holy crap.

If you want a second opinion, I can give you the number to the cylinder head shop that does my heads (this is the second time I've had work done by him, two different engines mind you). Hobbs Performance Cylinder Heads in Las Cruces, NM. His shop is crazy clean, and he knows Subaru heads like no other.

And $1000 for wheel bearings? They're $60 each, and labor from a dealer should only run a few hundred at most.

Who gave you this horrific quote? They're taking you to the cleaners my friend. I'd say pay them for the labor rendered thus far and cut them loose. They'll only screw you further.

Well, I got a call today from Dennis at Hobbs Performance Cylinder Heads that my heads are done. I pick them up tomorrow morning at around 8 or 9 am, and then start reassembling the engine. Hopefully if I bust my rear a bit, I can get the engine in the car, and running by late afternoon, early evening. Then I have a couple days to break it all in and make sure it doesn't blow up on me again, then it's time to pack up and move by Friday.

Yesterday I debadged the entire hatch, i thought there would be holes behind the subaru badge like on my last foz..but nope on this one they were behind the forester. so i put the 2.5xt badge over the holes for now.

Plastidipped the whole radio/hvac bezel and shifter trim
Wow, cool, and I had to get the badge from Japan. I'd wish they would post a pic of the badge on the mysubarupartsstore.com website - just so I was sure that the part was exactly what I wanted.
^If I keep the FSTi theme I would like to order the FSTi front bumper STi decals from Japan (PN 93013SA090) how did you order your emblem? japanparts.com?
Put vinyl tubing around the front windows, behind the weather stripping to cut down on wind noise, as suggested in another thread. Worked like a charm!
Ditto!

Yeah, japanparts.com for the Forester specific badges.

As for decals, I'd try looking for replicas. I know Subtle Solutions used to have a set, but I don't think they are in stock.

Any link to said thread? Thanks!
Put 3mm spacers all around, for $30 it was worth it, but to get the wheels where I want them I'm definitely gona need probably 15mm spacers. Can't do those without making it a project by replacing all the wheel studs. Lame.
