I didnt get a chance to post last night but I spent yesterday afternoon and evening driving home through the adirondacks from eastern NY during and after hurricane Irene came through...took a little over 4 hours to go a normal 2hr drive...some roads were closed but I managed to make my way through some before the towns had a chance to close them leading to some fun water crossings and working my way around downed trees...at one point I came across another Suby owner driving an older impreza stopped at a tree that had just fallen across the road and we were able to use the tow strap I had to pull the tree away enough to clear a path for us to get through.. He hadnt seen an XT before and had some nice words to say and I wished him luck as he headed east towards the heart of the storm that I had just been driving in for the past couple hours as I headed west...
To anyone that lives in an area that has been hit hard by the storm I wish you the best of luck and that your subaru gets you through like mine did.

Awesome story. You should write it up and send it to subaru. I work at a local hardware store and we stay open through almost all adverse weather. Anyway I was on my way home from work during the worst part of the hurricane. Unknown to me the back roads had downed powerlines crossing the road. I drove right past the "downed powerlines" sign as the wind had blown them into the woods. I would have run right over the lines except one of the locals strung caution tape from their mailbox across the road and to a tree. I had to drive through some muddy ditches to get turned back around but the Soobie handled it just fine. Even with the bald geolanders.

:) thanks, I wish I had taken pictures or even better had a friend with me to film some of the things. Unfortunately I was by myself and since much of the damage was happening as I proceeded and I had run into a couple delays where some roads had already been blocked off by the town/police and had to find alternate routes adding more time I decided to just try to concentrate on finding my way home before it got dark and before the roads became shut down and I had to turn around and go a much longer way home adding hours to the trip...
thats good that you didnt get caught up in any downed lines and made it home safely...I also ran into an perdicament on one road that I decided to risk going down to avoid an additional 30min on my trip even though I had to go around some cones that had been placed across the road:)icon_rolleyes::icon_rolleyes:)...after driving slowly for about a mile I came across a section of road where several trees had fallen across the road but were resting on the power lines on the other side keeping them about 8ft above the road surface.....now I know what most people would think "dont try going underneath...what if the cables snap suddenly..etc..etc" but I pulled up to the "no return point" to get a close look and decided "screw it" im gunna go for it I need to get home...Gunned it and flew underneath the trees and continued on my way.. looking back it was probably stupid but in the end I made it home without harm or damage and had an interesting day to remember..
Still seeing footage of areas that were hit very hard...hope you are all safe and doing well. Ill actually be travelling back east and then up to Plattsburgh this weekend to visit my girlfriend who is in nursing school there so maybe I can get some pictures of the condition of the route that I take as it is now. And if there is anyone in any of those areas in the adirondacks or up towards plattsburgh that needs any help or supplies let me know and Ill try to help if I can.

I was at the Subaru dealership with my brother today as he was looking at getting a wrx. While he was doing his thing I decided to do my thing. It'll look good in the forester :D

Tried to get an iPhone case but they only had 3G cases and no 4's :\

Today I installed my Oil Pressure Gauge and ScanGauge II into the dash gauge pod. Its pretty rough right now. I'm considering this my prototype and the final version will come later. The main problem was the metal I used was too thin so it flexed and got bent in a few places, but for now it works.

Can I make a suggestion? Once you get the final design figured out, you can hit up ebay (or McMaster Carr) and buy small sheets of carbon fiber, plastic, or fiberglass to mount into the space. Those will be easier to cut than metal and won't flex and bend. Just a thought.

I'm going out of town for an extended weekend, so I'm dropping the Foz off at my buddy's auto shop tomorrow morning for its 105k mile service (only 99k miles on it now, but this weekend is perfect timing) and a full tune-up and once-over. Haven't had him look at the car since I bought it, so now's the perfect time to find out what I'll need to start worrying about -- if anything -- over the next few months. If it's nothing crazy, then I'll start skimming some money off the beer budget and putting it into the mod budget :)

That looks great! How does it sound?
Thanks! It's pretty good. Noticeable bit of rumble when the car starts up. It rumbles a little at low rpms, higher rpms not as noticeable. It does drone a little bit though, more so when driving in economy mode then with manu-matic and sport shift mode. Overall, for the price i paid, I love it. Just enough rumble without sounding too loud, obnoxious, ricey, etc. and I LOVE the look.

Installed this stuff ... all from subaruonlineparts

1 x Subaru Forester Rear Vision Back Up Camera (H001SSC700)
1 x 2010-2011 Legacy Outback 19MM Rear Sway Bar Kit (20451FG020/20464FG020 x2)
1 x Subaru Forester Rear Bumper Cover (E771SSC000)

Sway Bar is better, handles about as well as the wife's Mazda 5 (Stock) now.

There is something fun about working on a car with less than 10K miles vs fighting one with over 100K worth of rust (the old Mazda 3).
