What did you do to your subie today?

Thought it would be fun to start a thread on everyday things we do here and there to our beloved Subarus. The weather is getting nicer, so I'm sure we will all be outside more tinkering on our cars.

Today has been a busy day for me! Got my Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 tires in yesterday from Tirerack for the Sti and had them mounted and balanced today by a real cool guy off of Nasioc. If anyone wants his info in the PNW PM me. He runs a legit business out of his home doing tire stuff n such, for a really good deal. But let me tell ya, these tires are STICKY!!! They pick up gravel everywhere but they are SOOOoo nice! It feels like a different car

When I got back from joyriding the STi in it's new tires, I washed the Forester (for the second time this week) and finally got around to hand waxing it. Looks pretty, but boy is there a lot of bumps and bruises on it!

What did you guys do to the subarus today??

Clutch gave in today on the way for a surf :icon_frown:
Now I gotta track down a new one, damn...
Rotated and balanced the tires! Found a local company that rents a fender roller, once the weather gets nicer I'll be getting some new wheels!!!
Changed the air filter, verifed the 30k service had been done by the previous owner, changed the wiper blades and scotchguarded the interior. Made an appointment to have a squeaky driver's window repaired (at their cost of course)...
Similar plans for me tonight. Doing an oil change, filters, plugs, and rear wiper blade. Ooh, I need to remember to grab some plastic tubing from work to try out the wind noise fix. Ours is BAD.

Also hoping to be pleasantly surprised when calling around to some local dealers to see if any maintenance was done on this car! With 156k on the clock, it HAD to have the belt done, but I need confirmation!

Have your VIN number ready. If you have a carfax it's even easier. Carfax sometimes shows the last major service, especially if it was through a dealer. That said, I'd email the local dealerships' service departments and see if they have anything on the vehicle by VIN. I emailed the dealership that originally sold my Foz (it's near Alfred NY an I'm in PA) and they were more than happy to give me info on the car. The dealer who sold me the car last week is going to print up a full report on anything that was done by Subaru when I go in to have the window checked out.

Good Luck with the search for info. :)

You know, I didn't even think of that. I do have a copy of the carfax, and it has no such record. It even shows the one time it was taken back to its original dealer for a warranty claim, back in 04. No service records on carfax since then. Dang it.

Today, I changed the Forester's oil, added a new rear wiper blade, found out the Walmart computer was wrong and sold me the wrong air filter, and saw how truly bald the tires are on this car. I then decided to get our previous car's summer wheels and tires (all-season tires, but we also had snows on steels, which went with the car when it got totaled), so now the Foz is driving around on Cavalier Z24 wheels (got them cheap for the Vibe) with Pontiac Vibe tires (205/55/16). A tad short, but at least they have good tread!

I also realized how much oil is under this engine. Yuck. Of course, I have to comare it to our 03 Vibe that had 182k, and didn't have one bit of oil leakage. Ah well... can't win em all. A little oil seepage won't hurt anyone, I'll get it sealed up. Sux it gets on the exhaust and kinda stinks when you first shut it off.

Congratulations!
I parked mine at the bus stop and went to work..... this sucks.
So far today, researched symptoms of head gasket failure, and dreaded the idea of mine needing replacement. Wife did tell me the car "drove nicer" with the oil change and tire/wheel swap. Small victories. Still love the car.
My Subie took me the 3 1/2 hours home from school, and through a snow storm to boot!

Congrats, that is always a great feeling.

For nooblets like me, what's a fender roller?

:icon_redface:
Folds out the lip inside your wheel well (the bit that extends in above the tire) and can also push the entire fender out if desired. Basically, used to get more clearance for wider wheel and tire combos.
I've heard of guys putting a bat between the tire and fender and rolling out the fender to make room for larger wheels/tires. Never heard of a tool for this.

That usually ends terribly. Plus you end up with a huge gap.
Tool looks like:

Sweated for a few minutes when I noticed green snow under my Foz, when I moved the car back. Frantically checked under the cylinder heads with a flashlight and mirror, until I realized I had overfilled the windshield washer reservoir with green -40C washer fluid.
