Wet seat sensor?

14767 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  John L.
Yesterday the front seats got kinda wet. The seatbelt alarm starting going off as if there was someone in the passenger seat (there wasn't) and the seatbelt wasn't in use. Later that stopped on its own, but then I noticed the warning that the passenger airbag was off, even though I was in the passenger seat.
Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

@JohnArn I see this is your first forum post, so welcome to the forum from Oregon!

Take a look at this thread: Passenger seatbelt alarm goes off - spilled water on the seat - SOLVED!

This is a common issue with the type of occupancy sensor Subaru has chosen for the current gen, moisture somehow disables its ability to sense your existence. It is also thwarted by cell phones sitting on/near the sensor in the bottom of the seat

There are other threads about this, some are encouraging people with the issue to make a report to the NHTSA about how it makes the car unsafe. Up to you how you deal with it, but you are not alone
I just plug in the passenger side seatbelt so the car thinks someone is there, and it stops. And make sure if it may rain window is open no more than one inch. Otherwise I am afraid the sensor contacts could corrode and eventually have to be replaced.
