Want a cheaper Aluminum Radiator option?

If over $400 for an aluminum radiator (Koyo) is too rich for your blood, How about something in the $300 range, or possibly less?

Mishimoto who sells aluminum radiators for the WRX and STi crowd at around ~$250 at many vendor sites, could be an alternate unit. Their quality seems to be pretty good, and there are many many success stories on nasioc about them installed on the Impreza platform. They even have a great slim fan unit to replace the factory fans. And again, lower in cost, by more than $100.

However, there is nothing for the SG+ models. We can change that though. Just email your request to [email protected], asking them for a unit to be made for our cars.

The more folks that email the above address, asking for an SG or higher radiator, the more chances of us actually getting one made. Ultimately, so that there are more choices available for us. Competition is always good, and will lead to cheaper prices!

So again, take 1 minute out of your day, email [email protected] to ask for them on the availability of a Forester specific aluminum radiator. More information on their products can be found here: http://www.mishimoto.com/

That is all.

I was just talking with an engineer at Mishimoto last week and he did some research and thought that their GC8 radiator would fit the FXT. We did not compare all the dimensions though. This may be worth looking into, if the fit is not perfect it may be an easy change for them to make it fit the FXT.

It's been done on this forum, and it's not pretty. Physically the dimensions are right, but the mounting and coolant hoses are not. There was also little room for the factory fans.

You can search for GC8 or radiator in here I think (2.5 section) and find the DIY.

There is no doubt that the SG specific Koyo radiator is a good piece, but not a $400+ good piece. The rest of the market gets quality stuff for under $300, and I hope one day we can too.
I wonder if they could do one with a built in ATF/whatever cooler. Don't want to go to a purely external cooler as in the winter, having the ATF go through the rad helps bring it up to temp quicker, and the 4eat behaves a bit odd when the atf is too cold.

Being in SoCal, I've never had the trouble of too cold a trans temp... But I've always recommended an aftermarket transcooler from the likes of B&M for under $60 shipped... Heat kills a trans really fast, and those coolers are some of the best for light to medium duty use (towing, and aggressive driving).

That said, email them for your body style, and add in it would be nice if there is a 4EAT version too.
I'm in the market for one on my SF. Anyone know if the GC8 will work on the SF?

The GC8 uses the same radiator as the 99-02 SF Foresters according to the Subaru replacement part numbers for each vehicle.
So yes, the GC radiator should work in your SF... however, their GC slim-fan kit would be a good idea since the larger rad will push the stock fans close to the engine.

To add to my post...
The 98's can also use the aftermarket GC Radiator as long as they purchase a set of 99-02 upper rad mounts and cushions.

Subaru originally used different radiators between the SOHC GC and SF's but later made them the same replacement part (P/N - 45199FC371)
found the wrx 08+ version online for only 255.00 ! much better $$ than koyo ... I think like most do that the koyo are made very well , but as a foz driver that will never see a track but wants a radiator that he doesn't have to worry about busting at the plastic seams .. 255.00 is waay better for my tastes
wow those guys are fast to respond !

Sounds good! I will make sure the interested is expressed to the President of the company and to our R&D team!

Thanks!

SubaruForester.org -- on just this one site there are many threads all about trying to get or have made an all aluminum option

Mike,

Unfortunately, we do not have a radiator for the 2003-2005 Subaru Forester (N/A) at this time.

However, I would be happy to take your E-mail address down and add it to our product suggestion list. If we do plan on coming out with a radiator for your vehicle, you would be the first to know about it!

Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

I don't think it will for an sg but from the earlier posts the "gc8 " model for the early wrx might fit an sf

I mentioned it as a price comparison to the koyo

Great thanks just the info I was looking for. I had an aftermarket rad in my swap and it burst in the seams, so I need an aluminum one before I go to the dyno.
I have a Koyo radiator from a GC8 in my SG. The inlet/outlet holes mount up fine. The only difference is that there is an added nipple near the radiator's cap. I had my Koyo modified with a new nipple for this purpose. Other's that have used the Koyo for a GC8 in an SG and did not add this nipple. They said they had no problems but it is there for a purpose and so that's why I did it. In theory the company would just need to modify the GC8 radiator in the same manner.

Here's my opinion thread:

Huh? They they have one specifically made for the FXT?

Edit: Nevermind...found it. Had no idea they had one out.

YUP! And we offer it for sale on our website.

We also have a Koyo thread that's been going for the last 6 months.

Currently, about 10 of us have these for our SG's

but its for turbos only -- us NA foz owners are the redheaded step children in this situation . I would like to have a proper all aluminum radiator option too
