My '07 Forester scares me when it shifts into 4th when it's cold. It usually only shifts hard once but sometimes twice (2nd one isn't as bad). After it warms up, it shifts perfectly. I have only had the car for a few months so I don't know what fluid is in it. I thought I read somewhere that the dealer could re-program the computer to correct this. Any ideas?

FYI: it's non-turbo

Our '06 did that violently(matter of what you call violent...) when cold.

It would, if wet, shift hard enough at full throttle to get a brief 4-wheel spin. It was a hard shift regardless.

On ours, ended up being the shift selector solenoid. Basically the transmission was flying blind. If the ecu reset doesn't solve it, check the solenoid.
