I've heard all the arguments , forum owners not wanting to upset the sponsors ( all non-UK ) etc..etc but why not ask them to change the rules and let the active and involved UK forum allow UK members to organise group buys for their own benefit ?

All the banning of group buys does is send people off to Scoobynet Group buys page !

I have now spoken of heracy so will await banishment to the Reliant Robin forum !

I've tried to persuade other forums to take up discounts and deals I have managed to achieve without much success.
So first off - have previous attempts to identify EU based 'deals' with companies based in UK EU been treated?
Do we have an example we could quote to all forum members?.
Have we tried a poll amongst EU members
Is there a clear process for new business, if so what are the key steps?
More Q's before we progress to UDI

It's a rule that still makes no sense to me. I do not live in the States, and never will, therefore the site sponsorship by US Vendors benefits me in no way whatsoever. Restricting Group Buys to our US sponsors in a blatantly non-US forum is ridiculous.

Let's vote, as said if GB are banned here people will go to other forums. I don't get it either if there are no European sponsors. Since we don't ge to benefit from the US GBs, so in the same way EU group buys are not affecting US traders, isn't it?!

Yes but if it is an american run site (which i believe it is) it will be them that will get into trouble for our actions.... Not that i really care!

The site is owned by Autoguide (foot of page) and I believe that one of their people post's occasionally on the US page. The moderators monitor the forum for them. As I see it the forum runs for the benefit of the US market place and we are allowed a Europe page as long as we behave ourselves. I like the forum and find the world wide spread of info is useful but the group buy rules make no sense to non US residents.
I don't suppose that there would be a flood of group buy offers from UK/EU but it would be nice to have the option. Taken to it's conclusion then E-bay links should be banned as they do not sponsor AutoGuide.
It is one of those rules that irritate me and I see no justification for it, hence the original post as the group buy link page was locked !

Cheers

Ah the joys of an international community! I must confess that I was a little surprised to find that there was no UK specific forum when I first signed up.

1. The site is run by a Canadian company.

2. Mods (all volunteers!) have been reading this thread and are communicating with the authorities about it.

It is being discussed. Just like to point out to *everyone* here it isn't a 'them vs us' situation. Its about working within a framework that the owners of the site have laid down.

Thank you .

Steve, I have no problem working within a set of rules laid down by the site owner, my irritation is that no rule should be set in stone and never reviewed.

I will remain patient a little longer.

Cheers

I believe the first step to all of this would be to assign a moderator for the European section. We are currently discussing the Group Buy issue and will post in here when we have a concrete solution. Perhaps you should look amongst yourselves and PM me if you are interested in being a mod of this section specifically. We would need somebody to monitor the GB situation in here should we allow it. And yes, we are in Canada. Not the U.S. Toronto to be exact.

These are positive replies and we should take time out to let the matter be digested by those running the forum.

Maybe we should look at this as an investment ?
where would you as a specialist performance company want to place your ad in US or EU even if you could generate 10 sales pm in UK
Why bother.......

its suspended, which means it was registered but they didnt renew it, but its still available to the previous registrant if they want it. If 3 months pass and they dont renew its then released into the public domain.

But then again, if you're a EU or GB based company, (believe it or not we do have them) and you don't sell in the US market, why wouldn't you bother......

Group buys and forum sponsorship generate brand awareness
