I'm a bit confused. I came across the UK Subaru site and saw that the price of the XT is £30,995 which in US dollars equates to $50,896.89 (converted on Google). No one in their right mind would pay this much for a Forester in the US (maybe a 400hp H6 Twin Turbo 6MT Forester). What makes £30,995 a reasonable price for a forester?

And to think that price doesn't even include the 20% VAT and other taxes/fees! + ~$8/gallon for gas

It's flat out ridiculous over there...

That price is a total retail price and it includes VAT and other taxes. All cars are very expensive here compared with the USA. It's not specific to Subaru. Even a car built in Britain and exported to the USA such as a Mini or Jag is more expensive here than in the US. People will say it's the cost of doing business or whatever, but personally I suspect we're subsidising your cheap cars :)

FXT 2014 in China after tax is about USD 62592.65 (they don't have H/K speaker), and in some area, like Shanghai, a plate is about USD 14824.58, and in Beijing, they play like lottery to win the chance to buy a plate, and you might need to wait for more than 2 years if you anticipate every month.

Current list prices of the two Forester XT versions offered in Germany:

2.0XT Comfort 39900€ = 54914$
2.0XT Platinum 43000€ = 59181$

These list prices include the sales tax (sales tax in Germany 19%).
But nearly nobody in Germany pays these list prices.
I posted it already in another reply, that you get for example 15% off list as a member of a hunter's association.

Comfort: 39900€ - 5985€ (15%) = 33915€ = 46701$
Platinum: 43000€ - 6450€ (15%) = 36550€ = 50329$

Some Foresters (all other Subaru models, too) are also sold as so called daily permissions. Then one even gets up to 20% off list.

Nevertheless all Forester models (NA and XT) are more expensive in Germany than in the USA.
But also already posted by me in another reply: The German Foresters have a better basic equipment than the US ones.
