@JacobC77 I see this is your first forum post, so welcome to the forum from Oregon!

Quick answer to your question, yes, bad idea. It's a lot more complicated & expensive, than it may first appear to be.

The proper way to do this is the swap in a complete XT engine from a donor vehicle you have. That includes all the engine wiring, merging it to the cabin wiring.

Ok because I just don’t know how to make mine faster. I might be putting in a wrx motor in it.
I have that problem, too, only I want mine bigger,,,,,:rolleyes:o_O;)
,,,, the real solution would be to get an Ascent, ahem...

,just as yours should be to get an XT . OR a good XT motor and all the harness and gizmos connected to it, along with a knowledgeable tuner/ mechanic to make it a seamless transition ,,with a warranty it will work.
If it was me, I think the logical choice , most trouble free and cheapest would be to just get an XT.

It's not that easy to do. You'll need a donor vehicle that you will move parts over from... like the engine & complete engine wiring harness, including the ECM - engine control module. Then it gets complicated. You'll need to merge XT wiring harness to the the existing wiring in the cabin. If you don't have the skills to do all of this yourself, you'll have to source a specialty shop to do the work... VERY expensive!

If you want an XT, your best option may be to sell your present Forester & buy an XT.

As you can see on my signature, my son & I installed an AVO turbo kit in our '03 X. This was a fun father & son project, took us all summer! I'd never do this again, as it's a challenging project & way too expensive! Still... it makes me smile to think back on that project & Alex's turbocharged '03 X is still running perfectly with zero problems & yes, it's FAST, but not as fast as my '07 FSXT!

Anything is possible given enough time money and experience, but sometimes you seriously have to evaluate if it’s worth it, this is coming from someone who took a Nissan turbo Diesel engine out of a 1980 International Harvester Scout 4WD & installed a 6.9 liter Diesel & it was still 4WD afterwards, but it wasn’t easy or cheap! It was fun afterwards!

@JacobC77 that would be a discussion for another thread. Perhaps start a new thread here: ▼
