Well I have almost 300 miles on the beast and its time to start thinking enhancements!

First, do we have any members that have upgraded turbos in their SH?

What is the logical, modest upgrade these days? Does the Vf52 bolt right in or do we need to go VF48? I assume we still have a TD04 variant stock. EDIT: I read on some site that the TD04 we have "blower outlet is curved upward and terminates in a bolt flange" like the VF52 and is the natural upgrade. Can anyone confirm this?

I want to get a bit more linear torque/power curve than say a stage 2 TD04 that is really peaky in torque and not a lot of HP.

I am certainly not looking for a huge turbo or huge power but say stock STI type of power through the 4EAT perhaps. Just enough to remind me I have a turbo but not so much I have 4EAT in my rear view mirror.

I missed the car so much I just had to come back. Selling it was not my smartest move since I missed it the whole time. I have to say though that this new SH is great. I love the size and looks. Not fast yet like the SG (Auto no helping here).

I have decided though that I am going to do the things to this car that I did to that one and really like from the start (swift springs, hood struts are standard now). On that one I was headed in the new turbo route but as you know sold it to you before I got that far.

Or you could pick up some power cheap and go VF40. My stg 2 lgt with VF40(stock lgt turbo) made 263whp/290wtq with an ots map.

Or pick up one of the BNR bolt on turbos. EVO16G, 18G, 20G, 68HTA.

I have been thinking the same thing. After doing some research, it appears that the VF52 is a direct bolt on, and all the lines match up to our factory lines. You will also need to upgrade your fuel pump and possible the injectors. My little brother has a 2010 WRX, and that VF52 is a sweet turbo. I would rather spend $1000 on a new VF52, as opposed to spending $400 on a older turbo. I just don't feel like putting a used turbo in a car with less than 5k on the clock.
There are a couple members here that are thinking about this same upgrade. MFB has already done a VF52 swap in his 09, and RAPTR and I have been taking alot about this setup. Hopefully one of them will chime in, as they are much more experienced than I am.

Thanks everyone. I was able to search and find out the info on the VF52. Really seems like one of the logical choices (like the Vf39 for the 04-08)

I bet we have enough people to coax someone into a group buy on these. The biggest issue is that we don't have an OTS map.

I think I will drop a line to Cobb on that!

I really want a flatter Torque/HP curve as the Cobb stage 2 is very peaky in the torque and while I am sure it makes for a nice drive my 4EAT may not like it. Something like the VF52 will give a lot more HP without creating a lot more stress on the 4EAT.

Actually, the VF52 has the potential to make a lot of tq. Depending on the tune/tuner, you can make a ton of low end or have a nice increase.

For sure. That is the beauty. With the TD04 you don't get the options however. I actually like a lot of low end torque. Makes for a nice car around town, through the mountains etc. However, in this case if I am going to pay to play I want to go fast too.

Sort of an old thread, I know, but I can't seem to confirm which turbo my 2010 uses... some claim that it's not a TD-04 and rather a VF variant similar to the LGT's... The thing that really gets me is that the COBB stage 1 map increases torque an additonal 25%:icon_eek: whereas the 2009 FXT map has much smaller (and more realistic ) gains. Can anyone help??

Man, we need some kind of "2010-FXT Turbo upgrade" thread that has more specific information on what fits directly and what not. I am also looking into upgrading my stock turbo but would like the right combination of parts to make certain power levels.

Hmm... I wouldn't mind picking a turbo from an XT and putting it into my X if reliability was the same as factory.

VF52 are all WRX/Legacy GT turbo and will fit on a 09+ XT.

... and of course the key question is: given the upgraded injectors, fuel pump, intercooler and proper tuned map... what would be the peak/max psi that the FXT tranny could handle? Also, what would be the most likely max WHP and WTQ? Too many questions but if I am upgrading turbo, I want to make a difference and make this thing a beast.
