I wouldn't be concerned with this TSB if you're a DIY'er.

I did my first oil change myself, and didn't use a genuine Subaru filter. (Not recommending or disclosing what I used). :censored:

I wonder if the dealers are charging extra, or eating the cost of the added oil/labor. It's not exactly the customer's fault they are having supply chain issues. The cost of 4 additional quarts of synthetic is going to be a tough sell on that first oil change service.

It would be interesting, if there are enough users here, (that see this thread) that will go in for the initial oil change, to see what filter the dealer actually uses.

Wow, you would think they would at least put them in a sealed plastic bag They could have easily wiped out the cabin filter.

I used the taller filter on my 2010 Impreza. Didn't hang down far enough to be a problem.

Mostly just for simplicity, in keeping stock between the '17 Forester and the Impreza.

As long as the body/gasket diameter is the same, and the threads are the same, it should be good.

The only downside would be in extreme off road, but then you would (should) have a skid plate for that.
