getting a whine from the transmission?? in my 2002, SF5, 4AT, 84,000 miles, only noticeable over past couple of weeks

whine is noticeable above 20mph and pitch increases with speed, the pitch is not altered with gear changes, seems to be coming from the front, only there when I’m on the throttle, when I lift off it goes silent, if I down shift to induce engine breaking it is noticeable again

otherwise the car is running and driving absolutely fine

checked the trans fluid, front diff oil and rear diff oil, all levels are good

any ideas?? thanks in advance

Check your axle boots. I've never heard them whine but if boot ruptures grease is thrown everywhere and loss of grease might cause noise you describe.

A wheel bearing also might begin to whine, but they usually growl (low pitch sound) or a roar. Suggest reading some of the wheel bearing threads and look for your symptoms.

good luck
