I dont recall seeing a thread with towing numbers so lets see what everyone gets.

We went on a weekend get away and towed the bike along. Bike + trailer is 1200lbs. Mileage was 16.9 or so using cruise and running 75 on the highway. 95% of the miles were highway(about 770 round trip)

Typical mpg minus the trailer is 24-26...thats a huge decrease.

I've towed a 2000 lb popup on a few trips in both a 2000 and 2004 Forester (yes it has electric brakes and new-style controller), as well as one of the standard 1-axle higher U-hauls that sticks up above the roofline.

I think I may have gotten as low as 15 or 16, so yes the towing mileage sucks. But the Suburban I used to have got 14 not towing and maybe 10-11 towing the same trailer. So overall I'm saving gas and only getting bad gas mileage when I want to.

My last popup was 700lbs dry, I would usually pull it with a LP tank and a battery but no water to probably 750 lbs tow weight. I would get in the low 20's out of my 10X with a MT. I hanvn't gotten by "new" 1300lb popup out on any long trips behind the foz yet.

I just have to upset you all !

32-36mpg imp towing our 1400Kg caravan at typical speeds of 50-56mph, but I have cheated :icon_wink:

Mods done so far; Exhaust-Intake-TMIC shroud for performance, and a Synergy 1cr tuning box for both performance & economy. :bananapowerslide:

In an attempt to level the playing field, we need to translate some of this:

32-36 miles per Imperial gallon = 32-26 miles per 1.2 U.S. gallons = 26.7 - 30 mpg (U.S.). 1400 kg = 3,087 lbs (on Earth).

And, the engine is a 2.0 liter (litre? :icon_wink: ) DOHC turbo-diesel. :icon_cool:

Very nice results, nonetheless!

My pre-mod towing mpg was 26-28 imp, so yes, fair figures

Given that our Forum members use (at least ?) three different ways to measure fuel consumption , is there any way we can have an auto converter/display facility, perhaps a Fuel smiley :icon_question:

Not a bad idea! :icon_cool:

I don't use Imp Gallons much, so I have a quick-and-dirty "constant" that I use to convert US mpg to L/100km and back: 235. Just divide 235 by one to get the other. The actual constant is 235.2

For example, 235 / 10 l/100km = 23.5 US mpg, and 235 / 11.75 mpg = 20 l/100km. And, for doing it "in your head", 240 may be "close enough": 240 / 8 l/100km = ~30 US mpg.

HTH,
