Looking at what rubber to put on a 18x8.5 rim +44

I am looking to run a 245x45 0r 245x40...or should I play it safe and run 235x40? I havent decided which tire yet...

I am trying to avoid spacers...but 225x45 on an 17x8 +48 was really close to the strut....btw, I am on swifts/GR2's...

With a +44 wheel, you I believe you can easily go with a 245/45/18. I think a 245/40/18 looks a little small on Swifts, a 235 tire is a odd size that might cost you more and a 225 would look really stretched on an 8.5" wide wheel. I bet you could even fit a 255/40/18 under there! I'd find a tire place that lets you test fit different sizes. The Discount tire near me let me do that.

I definitely wont do a 225..but you really think I wouldn't have an issue with a 245/45? I would like to keep a larger sidewall, not only for comfort, but looks as well, so running a 45 would be key.

I am considering running m&s tires, as opposed to a/s...as I have re-01r for my stickies..

A lot of people have run 245/45/18 on 18x8 wheels whithout issues. Arthrogrian19 even has 245/40/18s on his +51 wheels and he doesn't rub.

I test fit 245/45/18 Contiextremecontacts on my +51 Superlegs and they did clear. It was close in the back, but did not rub.

Hmm that is good news...I am just very leary of fitment, as my current 225/45 on an 8'' et48 is very close.

I am researching 245/45...these things aint cheap!! lol

hey JE

my specs:

im on 245/45/18's

18x7.5

Rota Tarmac II's, i believe +48 (need to double check)

still on stock suspension

a few MM's of clearance, i can fit a little bit of my finger in between tire and strut

using BFG G-force AS

eventually gunna go to swifts and i havnt heard of any clearance issues with swifts on stockers, assuming KYB's are exactly dimensions has stockers

here some pics a few days after install

I'm running a 18x8.5, +35 wrapped with 255/35's. As for suspension, I'm on '06 WRX wagon struts and STi springs. <<< No issues at all. Overall though, if I could do it all over again, I'd go 245/45 to fill up the gap more, as well as a little more cushion.

+46 with a 3mm spacer, so +43
So did you rub w/out the spacer?

The stockers should be very similar...and good to know of your clearance. I am thinking that the 7.5 rim buys you a little room.

BTW, I think the tarmacII are 17'', and the tarmacIII are 18''.

^^yeppers..those are them!! I have the gunmetal TII's and love them.

However, I went ahead and just ordered a 18x9 et42...so running 245/45 w/out spacers shouldnt be a problem now.:Banane17::Banane17::Banane17:
