Was driving cross country and had the cruise control locked in at 75mph...everything was fine except on two separate occasions I got the P1312 (EGT probe failure) light while going up hills.

They cleared fine and I was able to continue driving without cruise control on and didnt get any codes. After a day, I put on cc for kicks and giggles while going up a long incline and got the code again. I didnt even get into boost while this happened.

I know it is not the best use of cc, but am stumped why this code would happen in this circumstance.

Note...I was running a 93 octane map while using 91 octane gas...it will be switched tomorrow. Didnt think I would need to swap maps since I was just cruising at a steady speed the entire trip.

I do have a catless UP with EGT sensor still attached. Dont think it is a bad sensor since it happens only in this specific instance.

Thoughts??

Exhaust temperature sensor malfunction

Probable Cause

1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Failed exhaust gas temperature sensor

I would start with checking the wiring/connections.
