The only real mechanical difference between the bean and the X/XP is in the rear suspension (self leveling). I have not seen any problems with them yet, and the parts have been in use in other countries for a while now.
That said I really cannot justify the bean. It's pretty much an X premium with a plastic hatch cover instead of fabric and the addition of the leveling rear suspension. If it had the 6 cylinder engine I could justify it, but as is I would say get the X premium and save some cash.
Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is if you want to only install springs to lower it you will need to get rid of the rear struts too as they are self leveling and will pump back up to the OEM height. If you don't plan on doig that no problem. Other than that they are nice Foresters
