I know its probably on the forum but I've not yet managed to find it.

Basically, the Forester is a derivative off the Impreza Yes /No.

If yes, then where can I find out what is the equivalent model Impreza for different build years of the Forester.

ie Forester 2001 equals an Impreza what


If someone could give a poke in the right direction it would be appreciated.

I hate to be so straight forward, but I will anyways...

an SF chassis Forester (97-01) is based off the GC/GF chassis Impreza (93-00)
an SG chassis Forester (02-07) is based off the GD/GG chassis Impreza (01-06)
an SH chassis Forester (08+) is based off the GE/GH chassis Impreza (07+)

*note*
the model years are augmented by +1 year for USDM models

Roughly right, but many impreza improvements (ege later rear tophats) were introduced on Forester first, so while SF is based on GC it contains bits the Impireza crowd didn't get until GD and so on.

Also the 01MY changes for emissions were introduced on Impreza with newage but as midlife change on SF.
