[story snipped to save space... shoot me PM for details... lol)

First mod... resonator deletes! Eventually I will get a different tube to replace the piece between the scoop and the airbox, but for now, it adds a little more growl. I neatly sealed off the holes with electrical tape. Ghetto-tastic.

Before:

After:

Next, I removed the silly piece of plastic that Subaru put in front of the intake scoop to deflect air away from it.

Now, for my first appearance mod. This may not seem like a mod, but it certainly made a difference in the way the car looks. The paint's clearcoat was contaminated with all sorts of stuff, from old wax buildup to waterspots to ground in road grime, you name it. It gave the car an odd grey-ish tint.

Today I was determined to remove the aforementioned 'tint', and make her shine again.

First step was removing the bug deflector, and doing a two-bucket wash. Here's what it looked like after that:

Then, I claybarred the entire car. The clay took out most of the surface stuff that was left behind, but the paint still felt rough to the touch. So I broke out the Griot's/Porter Cable buffer and Meguiar's Swirl X for a test spot. Here's a pic of the spot:

After verifying that the method worked, I started working my way across the hood. Here you can see that the right edge of the hood is whiter than the rest. :icon_razz: I love seeing progress being made.

After that, I added a coat of Meguiars Gold Class wax for protection. I'll follow up with another coat of NXT 2.0 Tech Wax once I get some at the store later. Then I moved on to the interior... sorry, no before pics, just an after:

I <3 big gauges...

After pics of the exterior (total time invested: 12 hours):

More to come, I have some fun stuff in mind.

You should be able to get a custom Magnaflow axleback, installed by a trusted muffler shop, for under $200. We have Magnaflow mufflers on all our vehicles & we love the sound!

Leave the stock resonator. If you want a louder exhaust later on, you can change it out.

Bobby...
The 'trusted muffler shop' is the hard part. My muffler guy that did the Flowmaster setup on my pickup, and put a new resonator in the Foz retired and sold his equipment. :icon_frown: There are a couple other places in town, but I don't know them well enough to trust them with the Subaru. My truck, I'd say sure, but there are some really funky angles to be dealt with on the Outback.
I went here for my '07 & recently to have a Magnaflow muffler installed on the '95 Neon. The guy is a wiz on eyeballing & bending the pipe to the angles he needs. For the real difficult angles, he used a piece of wire to get the rough measurement. His welding is topnotch & he paints the muffler, pipes & welds when he's done! I'm picky, but this guy has me beat! :icon_eek:

Bobby...
I may just have to go to Memphis or Jackson to get it done.
Thanks for this interesting thread.
Nice job on the header installation. The hardest part for me was that top bolt where the header meets the cat pipe, that was a stubborn SOB. Definitely need to do something with the catback, or at least muffler, to let that boxer burble out.

My pleasure!

I was wondering, as I attacked it with the angle grinder, if anyone else had issues with it! I guess I'm not the only one then. I don't know why that one is so much more stubborn than the bottom one. Either way, Harbor Freight 4.5" angle grinder + cutting disc > stupid bolt. :Banane36:

Cosworth is selling stainless Prodrive axlebacks on eBay for dirt cheap (like $200) for the BH wagons. I'm tempted to get an advance on Christmas money (my savings and salary are tied up in a laptop... lol) and get one. However, I know those bolts out back look badly seized, and I really don't want to mess with them. So, the muffler shop can put a Magnaflow on and deal with it for me. :icon_razz: I think the Prodrives are fairly loud, too, and I want it a little quieter on the highway.

When the Magnaflow was installed on my '07, my trusted muffler guy cut it off after the flange. That means the muffler assembly can be removed, like a stock unit by unbolting it.

Aha! Hmmm. I'll have to remember this.

The Hella's rock! For less than $100, I now have awesome night vision.
Dang, saw a cute little Baja today similar to that. Little old lady driving it!

That light rack looks excellent. Man, your Forester has come a long way!

This is a cool thread.
How much lift did you say the battle wagon has?

 Thanks. I could totally rock a Baja... XT.

How much lift did you say the battle wagon has?
Around 1.5" in front, 2" in rear. May have settled slightly since I measured though :N_poke:.
I was up in Jackson last night, shopping for some dress pants, and came out of Kohls to find that my Outback had made a friend! Never seen another Outback around here before, just really beaten impreza L's and the occasional rusted out early 90's Legacy.

I thought it was neat, anyway. Left a So_Org card under their wiper, hopefully they saw it.

Nice!

Nothing new, just a couple pics.

Nice pics.

Ever thought about running some lights across the bar on your roof rack?
Pics look great mud!
Nice pics.

I have, but my alternator is working hard as it is, so I'd have to upgrade to a STI one or similar. I also plan to put a roof basket up there occasionally, so maybe I'll mount lights on that.

Pics look great mud!
Thanks Brian!

I did the DRL delete, and I'm really liking it. Saves mah fancy Narva headlight bulbs too.
Uh-oh...

I've always had a thing for roots-type, blowers, and my new friend 'anothernord' on SL-i almost has me convinced.

It'll never happen, but it's nice to think about.
