[story snipped to save space... shoot me PM for details... lol)

First mod... resonator deletes! Eventually I will get a different tube to replace the piece between the scoop and the airbox, but for now, it adds a little more growl. I neatly sealed off the holes with electrical tape. Ghetto-tastic.

Before:

After:

Next, I removed the silly piece of plastic that Subaru put in front of the intake scoop to deflect air away from it.

Now, for my first appearance mod. This may not seem like a mod, but it certainly made a difference in the way the car looks. The paint's clearcoat was contaminated with all sorts of stuff, from old wax buildup to waterspots to ground in road grime, you name it. It gave the car an odd grey-ish tint.

Today I was determined to remove the aforementioned 'tint', and make her shine again.

First step was removing the bug deflector, and doing a two-bucket wash. Here's what it looked like after that:

Then, I claybarred the entire car. The clay took out most of the surface stuff that was left behind, but the paint still felt rough to the touch. So I broke out the Griot's/Porter Cable buffer and Meguiar's Swirl X for a test spot. Here's a pic of the spot:

After verifying that the method worked, I started working my way across the hood. Here you can see that the right edge of the hood is whiter than the rest. :icon_razz: I love seeing progress being made.

After that, I added a coat of Meguiars Gold Class wax for protection. I'll follow up with another coat of NXT 2.0 Tech Wax once I get some at the store later. Then I moved on to the interior... sorry, no before pics, just an after:

I <3 big gauges...

After pics of the exterior (total time invested: 12 hours):

More to come, I have some fun stuff in mind.

Thanks again for the info! I've got some PayPal moola to burn, so eBay is calling me!

Bobby...
Always a pleasure to help the MOD king!

Like I said, I found mine with free shipping, so if you look long enough, you'll probably find a good deal.

Thanks for the compliment, but I'm not the MOD king, just trying to get the '07 to where the '03 is

Bobby...
My preference for spraying is to keep the wrap from getting oil soaked and then......that may just be an urban legend, but I figured it helps preserve it too!
Headers are sprayed.

Who else thinks something isn't quite right here? The picture is wrong, I know that much. This pic shows an impreza fitment. The Leggy/Outback would have a turndown tip and an extra bend in the pipe. Crazy nice price though.

Less than a week until it arrives back home (Tuesday night). Expect a few pics, and maybe one of it and the Foz together.
Snapshot!

IT'S BACK!

My dad drove it up to Nashville, and then he and I flew up to check out Kansas State @ Salina (Which rocks, BTW, definitely going there). He flew back down to BNA with me, but handed over the keys before he changed planes and continued to Raleigh. I drove the BattleWagon home the rest of the way.

Here's a dirty cell pic from the trip home. Within 30 minutes of being home I started modding, or at least test fitting some stuff. I'll get pics of that once it's done. Tomorrow's task: Headlight restoration, and some regular maintenance/cleaning stuff. Then an oil change/header install, and the light bar with Hella's. Still need to order the AUX cord for the '07 FSXT headunit.

Mind the [wheel] gap.

Looking good! Glad to see you have your wheels back!

Bobby...
It looks lifted. Am I missing something?
Zach, correct me if I'm wrong:

KYB GR-2's all around.
OEM H6 Outback springs in front
RalliTek HD rear springs

....Anywho, another package arrived today, so I can share a pic or two of my new corner-carving, load hauling goodies.

They go on next Monday morning at Sheehy. I'm so excited! The ones on it now are original, with 138,000 miles of city potholes on them. I can't wait to feel the difference. :woohoo:
Thanks Bobby! It feels great! Didn't realize just how much I missed it until I was driving it home yesterday.

It looks lifted. Am I missing something?
It is, about 1.5" in the rear, and an inch in front. Wish the front was a little higher, but it's okay for now. Just has the muscle-car rake thing going on.

The H6 fronts are what provided the lift at the nose; they have a couple more coils than the H4 model springs. The HD rear springs provide the lift in back. It handles really well for being lifted, and I'm going to get a RalliTEK RSB for it sometime to make it more stable in crosswinds (it has always been prone to sway, even before the lift).

When the current tires wear out (Potenza G009's) I'll get a set of Yoko HT/S to put on it.

Pics of today's 'mod' will be posted later. Not really a mod, but some useful info I guess.
How about some tint to go with the higher stance?

I know... it needs it BADLY. I actually saw a stock '00, birch white, like mine with tint the other day. Looked really nice.

I'll get 35% on the back 5 and something a little lighter on the front two. 35% is the TN maximum... still need to check on Kansas and Minnesota (since it's registered in MN). Won't be until spring though, need to save pennies, and buy a laptop. All of the mods waiting to go on were purchased before my computer died. I'm on my parents' now. lol

Headlight Restoration:

This would be something that SF owners might want to consider...

My headlights had some serious pitting and yellowing, so I decided to restore them using a Permatex kit. Purchased at O'Reilly for $17.99. It has 4 different grades of wetsanding paper, gloves, sealer, and a cloth. I only used the three finest grades of sandpaper.

Here's a pic of the box.

I just followed the included instructions, and was patient. I'd done it before on our Suburban, so I knew it would take a little bit. Just be patient, read the instructions carefully, and you'll be fine. It's not hard at all. Results are pretty good (I'm really happy with them), and a hell of a lot cheaper than new housings!

All done:

35% tint isn't that dark. I have that on the back on the '03 & '07. I don't tint the front passenger or driver windows. Once the back is tinted, the front will look darker. IMO, it retains more of the "stock" look when the fronts are left at the factory tint.

Sorry to hear your laptop croaked! I know you were saying it was on its last leg. :frown:

BTW, great job on the headlights!

Bobby...
Thanks. :) I changed the oil today as well. Mobil 1 Clean 5000 with a Wix filter.

Of course, with every mod that goes well, there has to be one that goes badly. :icon_rolleyes:

I had my lightbar fabbed up, painted, and wired the car for the Hella's using the Hella diagram / instructions with a relay off the highbeam circuit. Followed them to a 'T'.

Not only do the Hella's not work, but something fried something, and now my low beams don't work. The when you switch to high beam the headlights come on as they should in HB mode, but on low beam, it's just the parking lights. Checked the fuses, replaced one. Hope this isn't something expensive. :icon_frown: Gonna troubleshoot some more tomorrow. Already pulled the Hella's off, I at least need the freaking stock equipment to work! :chair:

Anybody want a custom aluminum Outback lightbar with Hella 500FF's? :/ I'm pretty frustrated right now. I'll say that it does look nice with them mounted.... if only they would work. :icon_frown:

It sounds like you're trouble shooting corectly. Remove the wiring that was added & get the OEM lights working right first. Then back to the Hella's. Were you working off the Subaru wiring diagram? The generic stuff that come with lighting kits don't always work for every application. In addition, Subaru uses some funky power switching! :frown:

Bobby...
35% all around. Trust me, you'll thank me later

Bobby...
I followed the Hella diagram, and used the Subaru one in my Haynes manual as a reference for connections. It all makes sense in theory, but something went wrong. I imagine Subaru's odd switching has something to do with it. I ran the same setup on my old pickup, and it worked well.

My grandfather is an automotive electrician, and even he's confuzzled. We're going to mess with it some more in the morning. He thinks the relay may have been defective somehow. Now we just have to figure out what is messed up in the OEM lighting.

On a sort of funny note, I can run the fogs now without the headlights on, since the headlights don't work in the low beam position. DRL's don't work either.

Haha

I would, but it needs to be lighter in front to look stock-ish. Otherwise our retarded police will pitch a fit, even though it's legal, and I just don't feel like dealing with them. :icon_rolleyes:
On your lighting problem.

Before digging in too deep, double check for blown fuse. Inside the cabin fuse panel & also the fuse box in the engine compartment.
