[story snipped to save space... shoot me PM for details... lol)

First mod... resonator deletes! Eventually I will get a different tube to replace the piece between the scoop and the airbox, but for now, it adds a little more growl. I neatly sealed off the holes with electrical tape. Ghetto-tastic.

Before:

After:

Next, I removed the silly piece of plastic that Subaru put in front of the intake scoop to deflect air away from it.

Now, for my first appearance mod. This may not seem like a mod, but it certainly made a difference in the way the car looks. The paint's clearcoat was contaminated with all sorts of stuff, from old wax buildup to waterspots to ground in road grime, you name it. It gave the car an odd grey-ish tint.

Today I was determined to remove the aforementioned 'tint', and make her shine again.

First step was removing the bug deflector, and doing a two-bucket wash. Here's what it looked like after that:

Then, I claybarred the entire car. The clay took out most of the surface stuff that was left behind, but the paint still felt rough to the touch. So I broke out the Griot's/Porter Cable buffer and Meguiar's Swirl X for a test spot. Here's a pic of the spot:

After verifying that the method worked, I started working my way across the hood. Here you can see that the right edge of the hood is whiter than the rest. :icon_razz: I love seeing progress being made.

After that, I added a coat of Meguiars Gold Class wax for protection. I'll follow up with another coat of NXT 2.0 Tech Wax once I get some at the store later. Then I moved on to the interior... sorry, no before pics, just an after:

I <3 big gauges...

After pics of the exterior (total time invested: 12 hours):

More to come, I have some fun stuff in mind.

It's actually somewhat dirty in those pics... you can tell from the wheels, anyway. His underbody is now spotless, believe it or not. Put him up on the rack at the dealer for an oil change the other day and the mechanic who always works on him said,

"Oh my god, it's clean under here... like spotless. How did that happen?"

Skid plate is off.... he's just enjoying being babied as a street car for now. Though I did throw him sideways a little last time it rained.
The weather here in Oregon is getting better, as in more than 2 dry days in a row, so we gave our Foresters a good washing last weekend. It's suppose to be very nice this weekend, so we're going to treat the plastic & rubber with Mother's Back-to-Black... not really one of my favorite things to do, but it sure makes a difference!

Yeah, right now he's just being babied as a street car to preserve the new headgaskets (and I still get the slightest bit of extra coolant in the overflow if I push it hard... which bothers me).
That extra coolant you see may be a normal reaction to the extra engine heat under load.

I fill the coolant in our vehicle to the full mark on the overflow tank, when the engine is cold. The level will normally rise a bit when the engine is hot, but never enough to over flow the expansion tank. The coolant level will drop back down to the full mark when it's cold.

Been way too long since I've logged on here. Had to get an update on the battlewagon though. Saucy...
Over the last two days I have read this entire journal... instead of doing my homework. Today I got inspired enough to steal your original cold air intake idea and ended up installing it instead of doing homework. Who needs college anyway.
It's been way too long.

Unfortunately, as some of you know, Ludwig blew his gaskets again, on the way home from school after the spring semester. 13 hours into the 14 hour trip, just after fueling up, I looked down to see the temp needle well into the red and pulled over. I popped the cap (using several large towels, THIS IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING), let the steam vent off, and dumped some bottled water in... and managed to limp him the rest of the way home.

24 hours later he met his new little sister, Sora, who I currently have at school. As of right now Ludwig is resting in a climate controlled garage / basement at my grandparents house in Tennessee, waiting for me to come and tear down the engine again... this time completely. Planning on getting the block/heads both decked to match, and rebuilding with some fun goodies. The only problem is getting the time to go home and do it.

:frown:
Uh oh...

...if anyone has any of the following laying around and would like to sell, let me know. Particularly the back half of an OEM Subbie 2.5 airbox ('99-'04).

I have a 98 airbox. Will that work? It looks like the same as my 99. (I think)
Ludwig von BattleWagon "lives"?

He's alive, Bobby... just can't go far due to his leaky gaskets. Arranging some title shuffling and a transport to bring him up to Kansas soon.

I'd have to see it. My hacked/upgraded one is now on a rally car. So I need one.
But once he gets back up here.... things are going to get messy. I now have a reliable DD in the form of the Sentra, so Ludwig can be ridiculous.

I'll try to get a pic up tonight.
thank you my good sir
Nice work Zach!

I CAN'T wait to see that. :woohoo::Banane17:
ah, nah, that's different. :( I need the one with the filter housing that sits at the back of the intake manifold. All MAP subbies use that kind, the one you have is for a MAF system.
Dang man. I had mine, and I would bet it would work. But, I sold the intake box with my old DIY CAI setup, and left the silencer assembly at my last house. Sorry...
I have the stock intake from my 02 SF, everything but the part that houses the air filter. Just sitting in my garage if it'll work.
